I've had a happy half hour here with three firemen here in the flat. A local initiative is for your local fire station to supply and fit 2 smoke alarms per property, free of charge and give your house a quick fire safety check while they're here. Then you're told the bad news. My local fire station is losing one of its three pumps. The idea seems to be if they fit all these smoke alarms, the drop in callouts will balance the loss of the third tender.

Oh well if Jeff's on duty we'll all go hungry that's for sure!
Mind you it's better then food poisoning...
