Everton have 'green light' to appoint Koeman
by Lyndon Lloyd | 04/06/2016 35 Comments [Jump to last]
De Telegraaf in the Netherlands report that Everton have reached an agreement with Southampton to pay off the remainder of Ronald Koeman's contract, clearing the way for him to become the club's next manager.
The Dutch paper says that the €5m deal was result of tough negotiations between the Toffees' major shareholder Farhad Moshiri and the Saints, represented by CEO Ralph Kruger and director of development, Les Reed, but Everton are now able to finalise personal terms with Koeman after an agreement in principal was reached with his agent Rob Jansen yesterday.

Jansen held productive talks with Moshiri and Chairman Bill Kenwright on Koeman's behalf but Everton weren't granted permission to speak directly with the former Dutch playing legend until compensation was agreed. Kruger and Reed were thought to be confident that they could persuade Koeman to stay at St Mary's Stadium, at least to see out the final year of his contract, but the lure of a significantly increased salary, a reported £100m transfer war chest and the promise in Moshiri's ambitious plans appear to have proved decisive.

Koeman made his name as a world class defender who starred for all three of the Netherlands' big clubs — Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord — at Barcelona under Johan Cruyff and on the international stage for his country with whom he won the European Championships in 1988.

As manager, he has managed six teams in Holland and also had stints in Portugal and Spain before continuing the renaissance of Southampton begun by Mauricio Pochettino, that despite seeing some of that club's best players sold over the past two summer windows.

He led the Saints to 7th place in his first season and then 6th place this term, falling just three points off the top four but securing Europa League qualification for the second year running.

Koeman would be joined at Goodison Park by his brother and assistant manager Erwin and, possibly, by first team coach Jan Kluitenberg as well, alongside both of whom he worked on the south coast.

Great start...trouble in Marseille....where do these morons come from ?....can't the police take pictures of the troublemakers....have to say that local hooligans are to blame probably as well....

Once again our muppet morons distinguish themselves abroad ; they cannot sit in a pub/French café without behaving like idiots....a normal fan would not try to antagonise the locals with chanting/ throwing bottles/fights at two in the morning two full days before a game....not our lot...they have to be at it straight it away....it seems that the british police don't seem to have any idea as to who the troublemakers are going to be ahead of these important games....something has to be done ...and not bullshit speeches by poilticians saying how bad it is....really...these hooligans are giving Britain a bad name....

Anyway...coming back to football...(the beautiful game...sigh !...if only...)....I reckon France will struggle to beat the outer Romans tonight.....they might win...but it might be difficult....

Dil - 11 Jun 2016 00:42 - 5034 of 6918

Hope I'm wrong but I can see Wales and England both struggling tomorrow but ..... if they can both win then they can settle for a draw when they meet next Thursday and be 90% sure of qualifying regardless of the result of their 3rd game.

We've got Payet. (Pıty he ıs French)

RF - whilst shameful it needs to be put in perspective - sounds like 10 or 15 idiots throwing chairs and insults around

Shame the other England fans don't put them back in line

required field - 11 Jun 2016 11:10 - 5037 of 6918

It is a minority...true....the problem is there is always going to be some idiot that will throw a bottle and start causing trouble......anyway...good luck to Wales and England......we have to hit the ground running in this tournament....

Dil - 11 Jun 2016 19:52 - 5038 of 6918

:-)

Ooops , same old England.

Truly gutted for you.

Harry Kane far to slow and poor corner kicks from him. Vardy should have come on for the second half. Typical result from a team not having it in their hearts to win.

Not good enough England.

Well done Wales but I thought England played very well tonight and with great heart!

VICTIM - 12 Jun 2016 07:06 - 5043 of 6918

Sterling fancy Dan , no end product , Kane very poor . Yes and Wales did it without much from Bale and Ramsey who I thought were average .

required field - 12 Jun 2016 08:51 - 5044 of 6918

I thought England played brilliantly overall....superb performance...but they went to sleep right at the end....you could see that they just didn't defend properly for two mn....shame really....Vardy should have come on ......very disappointing result....England have to beat the Welsh who have done well to win....I think they can do it but another massive effort is needed......

required field - 12 Jun 2016 08:56 - 5045 of 6918

Some very dodgy Russians at the game......can't say that I'm impressed with the policing in Marseille......it's basically fire teargas...if it stops violence good...if it encourages it....fire some more...and blame the british and forget about the russians...

Chris Carson - 12 Jun 2016 09:12 - 5046 of 6918

Well done Wales! Still baffles me why our centre forward is charged with taking corners which let's be honest, not exactly Kane's forte.

required field - 12 Jun 2016 09:29 - 5047 of 6918

Yes....and where is Michael Owen ?...perhaps they're keeping him for the next game....makes sense....

required field - 12 Jun 2016 09:38 - 5048 of 6918

Never heard of Stills Baffles before......which club does he play for ?.....

Chris Carson - 12 Jun 2016 10:13 - 5049 of 6918

Probably the same team as teargas rf :0)
