THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

What were Gordon Brown's main successes and failings?

I am no Brown fan, but the only thing good I can say is that he did bring in the national minimum wage for low paid workers and made a tremendous difference to lower paid workers. However, now for the bad, he ruined the pensions industry by taxing the profits on pensions investments to the tune of £50 billion year on year, and squandered money by creating an army of millions of non-jobs / civil servants. He never fixed the problems of Britain when the good times rolled, but instead left Britain with the biggest debt in living memory.

Successes:

Claiming that the boom times were down to his work yet we all know that it was done to policies implemented yrs earlier as it always takes yrs to see the fruits of changed made in an economy.

Claiming/Lying that he (superman) had saved the world/global economy

Claiming/lying it was his idea to make the BoE independent something that had been in the pipeline b4 he had come along

Pretending to be normal with his strange freakish smile when he knew the cameras where on him...the psychiatrists in this country have a lot to answer for letting that man run around free...in the community

Failings - Believing his own claims and lies I mean there where so many failing with this strange man where do I start and how long have u got?

Successes?
He managed to sell off most of our gold reserves when their value was at the lowest ever.
He managed to run the country into the gutter which we are all paying for now.

Failings?
He lost the last election.....thank God.

Did I hear chapter and verse??

come on lefties the HAYS SONG.....ALTOGETHER NOW.......

On a South London ring road,

Diesel fumes in my hair,

Warm smell of samosas,

Rising up through the air.

Up ahead by the Poundshop,

I saw a flickering light,

Completely knackered and I needed a drink.

Thought I’d stop for the night.

AND THEN REPEAT FOR SECOND VERSE.

Yeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaaaa

Camoron still trending on twitter 4 nights on the trot now, that as to be a record.

The working man fights back against the TORY PRESS.

Tory Back Benches are not going to like this one jot as most of them have a twitter account.

THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN, THE POWER OF SOCIAL NET WORKING.

(not all this dross from doodlebug on twitter)

Why is Gordon brown not that popular with 52% of voters for PM, after all the good he has done?
like
raiding the pension fund
increasing tax on the average working person to pay for labours failings.
increasing tax on air travel in the name of save the planet
and plenty more stealth tax rises.

I am not that mad yet!

The reason for this is most likely because the Labour Party has now developed too many negative connotations. It is a similar situation to that seen in the 90s with the Conservative Party. The trouble is that each and every government is going to be constantly attempting to make up for what the previous government messed up regardless of the party. It is impossible for any government to please all of the people all of the time. Gordon Brown will be the next Prime Minister because there is no better Labour candidate out there at the moment. To be honest there are no real parties out there at the moment either - they seem to have converged and are each trying to tackle the middle ground, TRYING to please the most people.

Yes it has cost the public 100 billion pounds-his raid on pension funds. Once they were the envy of the world but now they have become the worst in the space of only nine years. And he has the gall to believe he should lead us. The man couldn't administrate a creche properly. I think he should be sentenced to do community butlering for either John Prescott or The Beast of Bolsover Dennis Skinner.

Not forgetting the billions he has given to Africa instead of using the money to fight the poverty he has caused in this country!! I hope a) is does NOT become the next leader and b) For the hardship he has caused many hard working Brits whilst throwing OUR money away and rewarding the unemployed and immigrants that he die a slow painful and VERY lonely death!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe that he is very popular in Scotland - a country with a population of four million but only 160,000 net tax payers. Thanks to Gordon, Scotland is financed by London and the South East of England.

Guilt by association. And you left out the price increases of petrol due to taxation.

Gordon Brown as prime minister ? Gorden bennet! i think not. what, do we want another recession? got to love it when your own government takes money off you for their extravagant lifestyles and to give it to immigrants......will they get my vote at the next election hmmmmmmm let me think about it ..........ive thought about it NO!

Max.

It is the b. lying and boasting which came in with this tory bunch which irritates me.

When they came in, everything was wrong due to the Labour government's incompetence.

Now after 4 years of their mismanagement the economy is worse and the standard of living and welfare is worse.

Guess what it is due to the last government and all the other governments in the world, while they plunder for themselves. They stink.

The picked their own policies a cocked it up, while idiots like Haze praised them.

They are allowing the bankers, pension fund managers to get away with murder.

They have ducked the city, their financial backers and remain frightened of their own shadows.

They deserve to be dumped and followed up with investigations into their relationship with the city.

Or will the records be lost like the Paedophile records of the Parliament investigation seem to be.

Were they lost under this administration, if so why?

The one thing I am satisfied with that they can't easily terminate their period office and the period of negligent mismanagement will be evident in May

Mind with devolution the problems will remain, but may become the responsibility pf LOCAL GOVERNMENT without the funds or necessary organisation.
(Washing their hands.)

Strange how Maggie and cohorts centralised government!

SNP membership hits 90,000 after party hold spectacular rally at Glasgow Hydro

Nov 23, 2014 19:40 By Martin Belam
ONE in 60 Scots now belong to the party, giving the Scottish Nationalists the third biggest party membership in the UK.

THE SNP membership bandwagon shows no sign of stopping.

Just two months ago, we reported that they had become the third largest party in the UK by membership, when they hit the 65,000 members mark.

At the weekend the SNP held a spectacular rally in Glasgow with over 10,000 attendees, and revealed that their membership numbers have now soared to over 90,000.

That’s an incredible 350% rise since the party lost the Scottish Independence Referendum in September, and, assuming the members are mostly based in Scotland, it means that around one in 60 Scots belongs to the party.

The SNP have been criticised for holding a massive public rally so soon after Scotland voted “No” to independence, but despite losing the vote and losing Alex Salmond as their leader, the surge in membership will buoy them up.

The other party celebrating membership growth is UKIP. It’s much slower growth than the SNP, but last month the party announced it had broken through the 40,000 mark.

Lord Ashcroft polling puts Labour ahead, but with questions over Miliband leadership

Only a fifth of voters believe that Ed Miliband will be Prime Minister after the election, according to polling carried out by the Conservative peer Lord Ashcroft.

Lord Ashcroft’s polling showed that the Labour party are on course to win a majority, despite most voters believing that David Cameron will continue as Prime Minister after May.

The polling showed that the Labour party is now five points ahead of the Conservatives, suggesting that the resignation of Emily Thornberry last week did not harm the party.

However, 59 per cent of voters thought that Mr Cameron would remain Prime Minister.

“Though all outcomes seem possible, most voters just do not think Mr Miliband will reach Downing Street,” said Lord Ashcroft. “That in itself could be an indicator of whether they will ultimately be prepared to put him there.”

The polling showed that 32 per cent of voters would vote for Labour, while 27 per cent would vote for the Conservatives. Labour’s vote rose by two points, while the Tories fell two points.

Meanwhile, a poll by Populus put Labour at 36 per cent and the Conservatives on 31 per cent.

The Ashcroft polling showed that the UK Independence Party’s vote share increased two points to 18 per cent in the wake of their second by-election in Rochester and Strood. The Liberal Democrat vote share fell to 7 per cent, after the party lost its deposit in the Kent by-election.

The Liberal Democrats got only 349 votes in Kent – 0.87 per cent of the votes cast – raising concerns about an electoral meltdown in 2015.

Lord Ashcroft said that it was notable that “the two largest parties have achieved a combined share of just 59% for five out of the last six weeks”.

The Conservative peer – known for his tense relationship with the Tory central office – said that the as smaller parties become more influential and the political scene became more fragmented, parties would have to fight constituencies seat by seat.

Some 40% thought the Conservatives would be in Government and 39% Labour. Of those, 27% thought Tories would be governing alone, rather than in a coalition, while 26% said it would be a Labour-only administration.

Of the 26% who thought there would be a coalition involving Lib Dems, half thought it would be with Labour and half with the Tories.

However, it is voters’ lack of belief in Mr Miliband that will worry Labour strategists.
