Long USD/CHF this morning @1.3164

goforit - 13 Mar 2006 10:25 - 5175 of 11056

morning, had a short lived long eur/usd and closed it for a few as it dropped. saw this that grabbed my attention.

[07:53 EUR/USD: EUR Supported By News, Stops Triggered On 1.1950 Break] London, Mar 13. The Dollar was unable to sustain its ill-gotten Non-Farm related gains into the weekend and into the start of the new week the unit has continued to be on the defensive. While a Reuters article quoting the UAE central bank governor as saying they were looking to convert up to 10% (from the previous 5%) of their reserves from USD into the Euro has resulted in the EUR rising against the field this morning. Also helping to support the EUR has been the speculation that Citigroup are looking at acquiring a large European banking name.
Into European trading and the recent break above 1.1950/55 offers is said to have seen stops go off to force spot to the fresh intraday high just posted at 1.1968 however with buying on dips preferred to follow-through buying the pullback to 1.1950 will be looked for before the topside is further explored. More bids are seen from Asian Central Banks on dips to 1.1935 with stops on the downside suggested to be building below 1.1915/10. Further offers are said to sit in size around the 1.1970/75 level with more interest to sell on the books ahead of the 1.2000 level.
Looking ahead, there is little of interest for EZ watchers on the diary so the market will focus on the Yellen/Olson comments due into the North American session.
On the options front, there is a large 1.1900 expiry noted for the NY cut at 15:00 GMT. Elsewhere, the Dollar rally seen Friday saw a slew of topside interest put through so having seen the large 1.18/21 DNT mature last week there is now speculation of renewed range maintaining structures/triggers being in play.

Stuck in the proverbial this is.
Playing it for smaller shorts too for now until it breaks the comfy zone one way or the other.

Its a lovely day here and the beech is beckoning. Just got back from the dentist, can't see anything very appetizing on the charts!

chocolat - 13 Mar 2006 14:54 - 5183 of 11056
