Please report bugs and enhancements (BUGS)

andy.lovell - 04 Nov 2002 11:26

If you're having any problems, or want to suggest some improvements, please post below!

Level2 changes
In the last few weeks we've needed to implement some code changes to make us compliant with the LSE's rules on the access of Level2 data.

The following requirement is now in place:
You can only use 1 program on 1 computer to access Level2 on MoneyAM using a single username.

This means that you are able to view as many Level2 windows using any one particular browser, or program, that you wish, however you will not be able to use both Firefox and Internet Explorer at the same time (the same goes for using Quote Tracker or TradeSeeker at the same time as viewing it using a web browser)

If you find you're being logged off of MoneyAM's Level2 with the message 'you've logged on from another location' then check the above and make sure you're not running any other programs at the same time before reporting this as a bug.

Di,

TOK is correct - there seems to have been a problem with BT users where they were unable to connect to the website yesterday.

What now?

IanT(MoneyAM) - 11 Sep 2006 08:08 - 5212 of 7315

PW,

Apologies we did have a network issue for 5 minutes after open, which caused that outage. THis shoudl now be resolved and you shoudl be able to access the site with no problems. We are investigating what has caused this.

I tried to get a quote for 'BEN-HUR', but I got 'Not A Valid Epic'!

'CLEOPATRA' was the same.

Kayak - 21 Sep 2006 14:32 - 5219 of 7315

That's strange. The Odyssey was a valid epic.

Having lots of problems with the site today - are there any known issues?

Terminal Streaming on three different computers keeps grinding to a halt, general browsing slow including Shares Mag download. Tried rebooting, kicking base unit, the other usual stuff. Nothing unusual on ping or traceroute but intermittent I guess.

Sick as a dog today so back later read any reply.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 21 Sep 2006 15:05 - 5221 of 7315

Kyoto,

We had a network problem at 14.55 which was resolved by 14.58 this afternoon, but apart from that the site has been up and running as per normal with no issues with streaming or the other things that you have mentioned.

A couple of points of information for those who occasionally have problems accessing MAM (or some other specific site) when the site is known to be "up" and functioning normally for others.

The first, and most obvious, is that it can be connectivity problems between your ISP and others, often caused by a router problem. Routers are routinely reconfigured for all sorts of reasons, and slip ups occur. If it's a hugely popular site (say, the BBC), it's likely your ISP will have plenty of people shouting. If it's a bit more specialized (like MoneyAM), and you know the site is up, then it may be worth calling your ISP.

Another problem can crop up: this is the DNS problem. DNS?, you say, what in the heck is that? A DNS is a Domain Name Server which will be associated with your ISP (usually). This takes a name like moneyam.com and translates into the numeric Internet Protocol (IP) address of the site you're connecting to.

Unfortunately, DNS servers, like all products of human ingenuity, can fail. Which is why every site nominates at least two DNS addresses for itself. The other thing that can happen is a DoS attack on the DNS itself. This is a denial of service attack perpetrated by one of those denizens of the Internet whose punishment should include chopping off of hands and other body parts with a blunt axe, ritual disemboweling and severance of the head with a hacksaw.

A simple way of testing for DNS failure, however caused, is simply to enter the numeric IP address for the site into your browser. So, http://193.243.128.75 will get you to MAM even if the DNS isn't around to translate the name.

Hope this helps.

streaming gone awol?

IanT(MoneyAM) - 28 Sep 2006 15:17 - 5225 of 7315

PW,

No we are still connected here - can you tell me what you see whn you try to access?

Ian

Haystack - 29 Sep 2006 11:14 - 5226 of 7315

Try a QUOTE for DDD. You will see that the price has not changed, but the intra day chart is showing a fall.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 29 Sep 2006 11:20 - 5227 of 7315

haystack,

I will take a look,

Ian

IanT(MoneyAM) - 29 Sep 2006 11:41 - 5228 of 7315

Haystack,

The change is taken against the previous days close, this allows for any gap ups or downs to be shown correctly. Therefore if you had looked at the chart just after open it would have been up 0.25, it has now returned to last nights close so is showing as no change, even though it has dropped off since open.

Ian

Haystack - 29 Sep 2006 13:17 - 5229 of 7315

Yes. You are right. The trouble is that I expected to see a reference line based on last nights close as on other systems. That would show the whole picture.
