Israeli Gaza conflict?????? (GAZA)

Fred1new - 06 Jan 2009 19:21

Will this increase or decrease the likelihood of terrorist actions in America, Europe and the rest of the world?

If you were a member of a family murdered in this conflict, would you be seeking revenge?

Should Tzipi Livni and Ehud Olmert, be tried for war crimes if or when this conflict comes to an end?

What will the price of oil be in 4 weeks time?

Jewish settlers from Kiryat Arba settlement started a fire in Palestinian farms south of Al-Khalil city on Wednesday afternoon, local sources reported.

They said that tens of settlers attacked the farmland located between their settlement and Bani Naim village, south of Al-Khalil city, setting vast areas cultivated with wheat on fire.

The sources noted that the blaze quickly spread in hundreds of dunums surrounding the settlement, adding that Palestinian fire brigades rushed to the scene but the fire was much bigger than their capabilities.

Jewish settlers in the West Bank almost daily assault citizens and damage their cultivated land lots in a bid to terrorize them away and annex the land. Israeli occupation army gives a blind eye to such practices and even protects those settlers.

Palestinians: Settlers cut down 40 olive trees in fresh West Bank rampage
Settlers reportedly rampage in West Bank for second straight day; settler wounded in clash with police.

Settlers rampaged in the West Bank for a second straight day on Tuesday, cutting down some 40 olive trees belonging to Palestinian farmers in the village of Burin, said Mayor Ali Eid.

The Israel Defense Forces said it received reports of the rampage, but by the time troops arrived, the settlers had fled.

Extremist settlers often vandalize Palestinian property to protest Israel's removal of small, illegal outposts in the West Bank - a tactic they call "the price tag."

From the same newspaper

Settlers uproot Palestinian olive grove

Settlers on Thursday uprooted 117 olive trees in the Palestinian village of Jayyus, adjacent to the Zufin settlement near Qalqilyah.

Villagers said dozens of settlers, some of them armed, entered the olive grove owned by village resident Mohammed Salim at 8 A.M. and started destroying it with a bulldozer.

The villagers called on the security forces for help, but police and troops only arrived in the afternoon. The settlers had by then destroyed trees.

Attacks on Palestinians by Israeli settlers in the West Bank have continued during the course of the olive harvest.

Settlers in the northern West Bank have also stolen olives from Palestinian villagers on a number of occasions.

Also from the same Israeli newspaper

Palestinian farmers, settlers clash near West Bank settlement of Yitzhar
In recent years, there has been growing friction between farmers and settlers during the olive harvest.

Palestinian farmers said they were attacked by Israeli settlers while trying to pick olives near a West Bank settlement on Saturday.

The Israeli military said the settlers and Palestinian villagers clashed near the settlement of Yitzhar. The army said soldiers separated the two sides and briefly fired in the air

Ali Eid, mayor of the nearby village of Burin near Yitzhar, says the two sides fought with sticks and stones. He says two farmers and one settler were lightly hurt.

In recent years, there has been growing friction between farmers and settlers during the olive harvest. Palestinians complain that they frequently come under attack from militant settlers. The army says it has put together a plan to keep the peace during the harvest.

Yigal Amitai, a spokesman for the Yitzhar settlement, said settlers and soldiers caught a group of Palestinians chopping down trees in a plot aimed to make it look like settlers were in fact vandalizing trees. The army denied the settlers' version of events.

Meanwhile, the army said it arrested two Palestinian farmers who were harvesting olives near Yitzhar and attempted to infiltrate the community.

This is an interesting sory of how Israel offered to sell Nuclear weapons to the apartheid government of South Africe. They have a reputation of propping up rogue states and dictators. During the recent troubles in Egypt, Israel offered support to Mubarak and tried to get other countries to support him as well.

Clearly nuclear weapons are not safe in the hands of Israel and their production sites should be bombed.

Revealed: how Israel offered to sell South Africa nuclear weapons

Exclusive: Secret apartheid-era papers give first official evidence of Israeli nuclear weapons

Secret South African documents reveal that Israel offered to sell nuclear warheads to the apartheid regime, providing the first official documentary evidence of the state's possession of nuclear weapons.

The "top secret" minutes of meetings between senior officials from the two countries in 1975 show that South Africa's defence minister, PW Botha, asked for the warheads and Shimon Peres, then Israel's defence minister and now its president, responded by offering them "in three sizes". The two men also signed a broad-ranging agreement governing military ties between the two countries that included a clause declaring that "the very existence of this agreement" was to remain secret.

The documents, uncovered by an American academic, Sasha Polakow-Suransky, in research for a book on the close relationship between the two countries, provide evidence that Israel has nuclear weapons despite its policy of "ambiguity" in neither confirming nor denying their existence.

The Israeli authorities tried to stop South Africa's post-apartheid government declassifying the documents at Polakow-Suransky's request and the revelations will be an embarrassment, particularly as this week's nuclear non-proliferation talks in New York focus on the Middle East.

They will also undermine Israel's attempts to suggest that, if it has nuclear weapons, it is a "responsible" power that would not misuse them, whereas countries such as Iran cannot be trusted.

A spokeswoman for Peres today said the report was baseless and there were "never any negotiations" between the two countries. She did not comment on the authenticity of the documents.

South African documents show that the apartheid-era military wanted the missiles as a deterrent and for potential strikes against neighbouring states.

The top secret minutes of the meeting record that: "Minister Botha expressed interest in a limited number of units of Chalet subject to the correct payload being available." The document then records: "Minister Peres said the correct payload was available in three sizes. Minister Botha expressed his appreciation and said that he would ask for advice." The "three sizes" are believed to refer to the conventional, chemical and nuclear weapons.
