Crocodile - 16 Dec 2002 03:59

ronlloyd - 20 Dec 2006 12:05 - 5279 of 11003

I am running XP.
I have tried and cannot re-install the driver or anything from the CD, it just gives the error message 0x80040707.
The camera does not have a USB connection.

The problem didnt exist until a few days ago, all was well, but something has gone wrong, and now it wont work at all.

Have you tried downloading the latest version of the software from the internet?

ronlloyd - 20 Dec 2006 12:15 - 5281 of 11003

Cheers, I will give it a go SC.

Haystack - 20 Dec 2006 12:42 - 5282 of 11003

Can you use other USB devices on the PC? Check System, Hardware, Device manager and look at USB ports and see if they are working alright.

ronlloyd - 20 Dec 2006 14:30 - 5283 of 11003

All my other USB devices work.

I cannot find the appropriate software to download, from the Olympus site. Its not listed.

The strange thing is that I have 2 CD's for 2 Olympus cameras, both have slightly different software, and not one of them will install. I have even removed the existing software, using Control Panel/ remove/add software.

I dont understand the error message 0x80040707.

Seymour Clearly - 20 Dec 2006 14:35 - 5284 of 11003

Could it be a camera problem?

ronlloyd - 20 Dec 2006 15:16 - 5285 of 11003

Cant be a camera problem, as all I am doing is trying to open the Olympus Master, and look at photos at the moment, but when I come to transfer images it wont work either.

Bolshi - 20 Dec 2006 17:30 - 5286 of 11003

ron. Have you tried another download program? I've got an Olympus and I can use Adobe Photoshop Starter Edition (Freebie) if I want sometimes.

Haystack - 20 Dec 2006 18:01 - 5287 of 11003

On XP you don't need download programs. It is just anothert file system.

ronlloyd - 20 Dec 2006 18:12 - 5288 of 11003

Thanks for all the help so far, but I am off on holiday thursday morning, so will try out the Adobe freebie when I get back, hopefully with loads of pictures.

cheers and happy Christmas.

Hi.

I think my PC memory needs increasing.

How do I go about this?

Thanks.

Haystack - 21 Dec 2006 11:23 - 5290 of 11003

Have a look at the motherboard manual that came with your PC. It should show what combinations are possible. It may even show you how to remove and refit the new chip board. There are usually clips at either end to be released. There may be a manual on the internet. What sort of PC/motherboard is it?

How much memory have you got at present?

KEAYDIAN - 21 Dec 2006 11:36 - 5291 of 11003

It's a Philips Freeline and I've 1.00 gb.

Optimist - 21 Dec 2006 11:46 - 5292 of 11003

KEAYDIAN

Go to http://www.crucial.com they have a system scanner which will check your system and recomend an upgrade.

However, if you already have 1GB of RAM why do you think you need more? Whilst many modern systems can use more memory than this, you still need some memory hungry apps to take advantage of it.

KEAYDIAN - 21 Dec 2006 11:52 - 5293 of 11003

A friend of mine has 2GB.

I find if I have to many windows open the PC occasionly slows down.

I also find if I have to many windows open I get cold around this time of year.

;O)

Optimist - 21 Dec 2006 11:59 - 5294 of 11003

Fair enough, but before you spend money on new RAM, keep an eye on your Task Manager to check exactly how much RAM you're using. I find that Internet explorer amongst others gradually increases its memory usage during the day which slows my system down even with 300MB free RAM.

Bolshi - 21 Dec 2006 12:39 - 5295 of 11003

Optimist. That's a good site! I wish I'd have seen that before ordering from Santa this year. I'll wait for New Year and do an upgrade myself.
It recommends me to put a 1024Mb alongside my 2 x 250's.
86 for the chip doesn't seem too bad.
Cheers.

Thanks Opto.

Maggot - 21 Dec 2006 20:45 - 5297 of 11003

Have just downloaded IE7, but it appears that I cant put anything into Favouriteswithout giving Google my e-mail address, which I do not intend to do. Have I understood this correctly?

kernow - 22 Dec 2006 08:23 - 5298 of 11003

Maggot - The small gold star overlaid with a green +, top left to add to favourites. No e mail address needed here.
