MOSCOW, Nov 24 (Reuters) - Trading of London-listed Russian explorer Timan Oil & Gas Plc's shares resumed on Monday following a seven-month break, and the company said its first-half net loss halved.
Shares in the firm, which asked for the suspension in late March on London's junior AIM market for smaller and mid-sized companies, were down 70 percent at 1340 GMT at 9.4 pence per share, widening losses on earlier trade.
"We are positive that the situation will pick up later," Timan Chief Executive Alexander Kapalin told Reuters in an interview.
"Small amounts are being traded, so it is difficult to judge how the company is really faring."
He added that Timan was one of the first Russian companies to be affected by the global financial crisis, prompting it to ask for the suspension while it sorted out its financing.
But Kapalin said Timan is also benefiting from cheaper materials and experienced sub-contractors desperate for work, both results of the crisis.
Timan, which has fields in the southern Caucasus region of Dagestan and Siberia's resource-rich Timan-Pechora region, said in a statement its net loss for the six months to 30 June was 2.73 million pounds ($4.07 million) versus 5.27 million pounds in the same period last year.
Revenues edged up in the first half of this year to 370,000 pounds, from 306,000 pounds, due to increased revenues from the sale of thermal water.
Timan also said that its NGPT field, or Nizhnechutinskoye, now has registered reserves of around 631 million barrels, or 834 million tonnes, and is therefore deemed a strategic asset, according to guidelines set out by the Russian state.
"This is one of the biggest oilfield discoveries in Russia... It places us among the largest of the independents," he said, adding that first production, though very minor, will come next month.
In 2011, Timan hopes NGPT will be producing 1.7 million tonnes per year.
Russia has deemed any field containing 70 million tonnes of oil, or 50 billion cubic metres of gas a strategic asset, and therefore off-limits for development by foreign firms.
CASPIAN SEA
Next year Timan will start drilling in the Caspian Sea, possibly with Kamanisk Holdings Ltd, whose main shareholder agreed last month to lend Timan up to $100 million.
"The Kazakhs have an excellent, unique experience of working in the Caspian... This could be a cooperation with Kazakh and Azeri companies," Kapalin said.
Timur Kuanyshev, through his investment vehicle Kamanisk, agreed to lend the funds in two equal tranches to pay off Timan's debt and develop licenses in the Russian Arctic.
The second $50 million tranche will be supplied subject to the company meeting reserves and production targets at Timan Pechora's NGPT and KNG, or Khudayelskoye field, within the next 18 months.
Kamanisk, which operates in Russia, Kazakhstan and worldwide in the oil and gas sector, has five years to convert the loan into a majority stake representing 51 percent.
Timan will hold its annual shareholder meeting on Dec. 8, in which it plans to outline some "concrete future plans," Kapalin said. ($1=.6706 pounds) (Reporting by Amie Ferris-Rotman; Editing by Rupert Winchester )

Could this be the next IEC?

Interesting, but they need to make a hell of a lot of progress, and to get drilling soon, the sp might drop further and there's bound to be delays, have a look at PTR : they are very much further down the line and close to production but have slowed the project down, I'll keep an eye on this one because if the figures are to be belived there is a lot in the ground but they will have a lot of debt getting it out of the ground, a farm in might be another solution for them !.

niceonecyril - 08 Dec 2008 13:15 - 63 of 86

Here's a company that has reserves similar to IEC which has been valued at $2.4billion with no debt. The loan confirmation makes this a real bargain for those who are patient,

TIMAN OIL AND GAS PLC (LSE AIM: TMAN)

Update on the loan facility deal with Kamanisk Holdings

Timan Oil & Gas PLC ('Timan' or the 'Group') is pleased to announce that as of 4 December 2008 all the necessary conditions required to draw down up to $22 million of the $100 million loan facility, secured with Kamanisk Holdings Limited ('Kamanisk') earlier this year, have been satisfied or waived. The Group and its subsidiaries will be required to grant further security to Kamanisk, as detailed in the announcement of 9 October 2008, prior to the draw down of monies exceeding $22 million.

The Group has already received $8 million of funding under the facility as of the date of this announcement.

Commenting on the initial draw downs following completion of the loan facility Dmitry Chalov, CFO of Timan, said: 'It is very satisfying for us to have completed this deal with Kamanisk and to be drawing down funds at a time when oil companies find it challenging to secure funding. We value this opportunity to finance our asset development and production programme and as the Timan is now in a position to draw down further funds, we are looking forward to working with Kamanisk towards boosting our operations in the fields.

HARRYCAT - 08 Dec 2008 13:24 - 64 of 86

Valued at $2.4bn maybe, but with oil at what price? NO DEBT??? They just borrowed (or will be drawing) $100m!!!
Also, at some point the $100m loan is going to have to be paid back & that could be tricky unless the price of crude increases substantially (some are talking about crude at $25 pb).

niceonecyril - 08 Dec 2008 13:54 - 65 of 86

Harry; some were saying crude would hit $200,always the same, its about whether you believe we will come out of this recession imo and "when"? Whats for sure is if
we do (and i think we will)that crude will be a whole lot higher than todays price, along with many other commodities. So for those with the nerve, nows a great opportunity to get in at these silly prices.
I stated they have reserves similar to IEC,they need to drill and start producing so no, not worth 2.4billion at present , but a chance of a many multi bagger in the making? Also they have only drawn on $8m at present which will start the ball rolling, other demands will come once the need to build the pipelines etc.

Up 53% on the day, clearly profit taking at the end of day. Tells us that we're
still in a trader market, so some volitility expected but should slowly creap up
during 2009?

Exchange at 0853 GMT. The Russian explorer said it appointed Konstantin Ryzhkov
and Boris Litvak as new non-executive directors with immediate effect.

lend the funds in two equal tranches to pay off Timan's debt and develop
licenses in the Russian Arctic.

It is highly recommended that Tman oil and gas will have enough cash to generate high profits with the massive projects available. A realistic share price will be over 30p soon as the suspension is lifted and everything is in the clear ready for take off only 15% sahares available buy while you can.
