Has any got last tuesdays FT- In it there was an article on cross transfer of data from one PC to a new PC without the need to reload using discs and passwords [which is such a pain].
If they have can they tell me the web address of the company that produces these cables which allow me to do the above.
Thanks in advance.

I'm about to buy the bits to set up a wireless network (desktop < -> laptop).
For my desktop I'm looking at a PCI card that says the PCI slot should be '2.1 compliant'. How can I tell if it's 2.1 compliant?
If the type or age of the PC gives any clue, I have a Gateway AMD Athlon 750MHZ bought in 2000.

Kayak - 27 Dec 2003 20:08 - 65 of 133

Geonic, it no doubt will do, only very old motherboards are not 2.1 compliant. If you wanted to be absolutely sure you would need to get the motherboard model number and look up the spec on the manufacturer's website. If you are running Windows 98 there is an easy way to tell though.

Crocodile - 27 Dec 2003 21:02 - 66 of 133

Would agree with Kayak, only very old M/Boards are not 2.1 compliant.
By the way you can pick up a new motherboard & 2Ghx AMD fOR less than 100 if the worst comes to the worst.

Geonic - 28 Dec 2003 01:37 - 67 of 133

Kayak, Croc - thanks for your replies.

Kayak - I do run Windows 98(SE), how can I check 2.1 compliancy?

Kayak - 28 Dec 2003 17:16 - 68 of 133

Geonic, open Control Panel/System; under Device Manager there will be a System Devices branch. Double click on it and then double click on "PCI bus". If there is a tab headed "IRQ steering" then you definitely have 2.1.

Geonic - 29 Dec 2003 10:27 - 69 of 133

Thanks Kayak.
I have 2.1.

Fed up of flash, sick of spam and vorried by virus's?

Trey these free and gratis. I've found they all work for me on XP and outlook 2000.

http://www.spamfighter.com/

www.grisoft.com (AVG free edition)

and for those bloody annoying Flash pop ups edit your registry with

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}]
"Compatibility Flags"=dword:00000400

Good luck.

Stan - 27 Jan 2004 17:03 - 71 of 133

It's taking me a full minute for the login box to come up, am i the only one or is that normal now please?

I,m using a Mac.

Regards

Stan.

Felix(MoneyAM) - 27 Jan 2004 17:14 - 72 of 133

Stan, I think you were just unlucky, there was a system update going through
at that time which may have caused a temporary slowdown for some users...
does the problem persist?
