Asia/Pacific excluding Japan (APEJ) enjoyed a strong performance in mobile services in 2004, surpassing growth in the major regions of North America and Western Europe, IDC says. Total mobile subscribers in APEJ grew a robust 25.6% in 2004 over 2003 to 527.3 mln. The 10 key markets in APEJ also saw mobile service revenue grow a healthy 18% in 2004 year on year to $69.8 bln. India was the fastest growing market in the region as subscribers more than doubled to 48 mln, while China, the Philippines and Thailand were also significant contributors.

Led by strong subscriber growth, mobile service penetration in APEJ improved to 20% in 2004, from 16.1% in 2003. However, the diversity of these 10 markets in terms of market maturity, competition, network technology, growth potential, per capital income and service adoption, drew wide differences amongst markets. Five of these markets had reached penetration of 75% and above; namely, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan; while other emerging and less developed markets are catching up fast. But at the other end of the continuum is India, which still lags far behind with mobile service penetration at a paltry 4.5% in 2004. In the next phase of growth for mature markets, 3G services made noticeable progress last year. South Korea enjoyed more than doubling in 3G subscribers, while Australia and Hong Kong saw adoption rates pick up. 3G subscribers totaled 10.2 mln in 2004, accounting for 1.9% of the market in APEJ.

2LB its clear you have an in-depth knowledge of the teclecoms market, so:
1. How do you think CCR will fair against competition.
2. What do you think is a reasonable market share for CCR.
3. Do you think with EVS being a PLC this helps them to promote CCR.
4. EVS has a nice niche market which offers cheap calls to the Asias, Africa etc the growth is set to climb can you see competition from bigger boys.

It really all comes down to waht you define as the market for CCR, only then can you talk about it in relation to "the competition" and "market share". It is my opinion that CCR is not used to its full potential solely as a mechanism for international calls, there are better and cheaper products for that specific target consumer, and it should not try to compete. It is more a tool for non-geographic application that also happens to allow you to make international calls at a decent quality and lower than you "normal" provider.

(3) Yes, I think it will, it's surprising how those 3 little letters can help in certain businesses and this would be one.

(4) My only fear for EVS from bigger players is their over-reliance on their share of the UK market, which is highly competitive compared to the other European markest in which they could operate - I believe they need to get live in as many countries as possible as soon as possible, either by IP installation or by acquisition, this will remove the pressure on the core business to deliver year on year growth in a saturated market, which the UK is.

Cheers 2LB well we do know that they have already hinted at an acquisition in the coming months so hopefully it may be what we are looking for, EVS already have Eurotel Exchange, hope they can utilise this as much as poss.
I will agree that PLC does have some weight, as peeps are more inclined to trust the company.
I understand what you mean about CCR I have NTL and can call any one with the same area code for free, but I have found CCR to be very useful when using my mobile, its cheaper than tex And also gives CCR bigger revenue.

Morning J! You've probably gone to work by now! Hopefully by end of this week I will be all sorted out here and will try to post a bit more frequent to see if we can get this thread a little busier!

Morning advan tq, another nice day, I think things will be subdued until the next bit of news until then we can only go over what we already know. But EVS is in a much stronger position now the SP has held firm between 4 & 4.7p this is good news as the next statement will certainly take us back to the 6p level but if its anything like the last steady rise we may see a 200% rise in the next six months. Hears hopeing
