THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

iran needs higher oil prices of course, but i can't see that they have much influence even within opec, where for sure saudi will not them

assuredly you can buy into (or sell) crude CFDs and therefore s/b

Thanks Fred, cynic.

I'll look into the cfd/sb side of things.

The oil price is too low by any standard, so there might be a way of making a few bob instead of losing it on smallcap oilers.

We appear to be witnessing up what used to be known as the great game ... up front!

Any idea when the dollar is going to weaken?

When people wake up to the fact that the dolla is just a piece of paper with a promise attached to it.

Watch China and others who are cheesed off with picking up worthless bits of paper.

China won't rock the boat. They are effectively financing the US debt in exchange for access to the US market. It has been that way for around twenty years. They currently hold $1.25 trillion. That's is about a fifth of the total US debt. China likes it that way as it enables them to keep their currency low. It also gives them some political clout with the US. Occasionally they threaten to sell some of the debt, which would cause US interest rates to rise and slow growth.

Max,

There are EFTs for oil.

I know nothing about them, but do a search on the internet or your broker.

Similar to using an indices. Personally don't like them and some spreads are wide.

If you don't already use Sbs. of CFDs. remember that they are leverages and think of it that you have to cover the total possible movement of the value of your bet.

Check the spreads.

I think the market is dangerous at the moment and I think watching is a little more sensible than engaging.

I wish I had listened to myself a few days ago.

C'est la vie.

Hils,

I don't know if you are a 'Strictly' fan but.....

Any educated guess as to what has happened to Ola?

The media are reporting a 'serious injury' which is also going to be damaging to her career as a top dancer. I can't find any additional details anywhere, though. In the picture below she has her leg fully braced up and is at least hobbling along on crutches. Reports did say she had badly damaged her hip too.

It does look like a very bad knee injury and so my own guess is that she has probably torn/snapped her cruciate ligament. If so, do you think it could it have been repaired so soon?

Anyhow, even if she has no make-up on and isn't wearing something skimpy, it's nice to see her out of hospital.

It looks like an excellent way of losing your shirt in a very short space of time.

Who needs dodgy smallcaps?

hilary - 15 Dec 2014 10:17 - 53020 of 81564

Doc,

I am a fan of Strictly, but I didn't know Ola Jordan had injured herself. Apparently she was practicing on a dry ski slope for 'The Jump'.

Looking at the leg brace, it certainly suggests a knee ligament injury, and there also seems to be some kind of dressing under her leggings in front of the knee itself. I'm not sure why they'd need to dress the knee unless the skin had been punctured, either during the fall itself or in surgery??

I don't know when she injured herself, but I think they need to wait until the swelling goes down before they can run the MRI scan. That in itself can take a week or two, and, if you've ever wondered why football clubs are cagey about releasing information about player knee injuries, it's because they can't run the scan to find the full extent of the injury before the swelling subsides. That aside, an experienced physician doesn't need an MRI scan to tell you if an ACL is snapped - they can simply hold the lower leg below the knee and move it about freely.

Assuming it is ACL, and if she's had reconstruction surgery already, she'll be out for 6 to 9 months. The rehab is seriously hard work, but she's fit, so I'd guess closer to 6 months than to 9.
