How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Bugz - 26 Oct 2005 17:12 - 5318 of 10502

As a newbie to Betfair-can someone give a wrap up of why one would want to lay someone-isnt this just opening urself up to a lot of possible risk?

Scripophilist - 26 Oct 2005 17:14 - 5319 of 10502

I can see Heman hill now being renamed, Murray mount. Didn't trade the Tennis too busy on the horses.

"why one would want to lay someone"

No worse risk than the other side. In fact you will probably win more often than lose so laying is often more comfortable for some people.

John, Had a great time. The only thing we didn't enjoy was the long journey back. Had 2 back to back flights of 12 and 11 hours respectively and no baggage at the end!

Harlosh - 26 Oct 2005 17:24 - 5322 of 10502

Well you will go round the world won't you.

Should go to Scarborough like I do. 3 hours in a charabanc. Lol !

Good to have you back.

bakko - 26 Oct 2005 17:32 - 5323 of 10502

Fundamentalist - 26 Oct 2005 19:47 - 5330 of 10502

Anyone trading the footie tonite?

Just put a lay in the market on Inter and Roma scored before it got filled :-(

Barca looking good but price very skinny (though they have scored 3 or more in last 4 meetings with Malaga at Nou Camp)

For anyone with sky, the Inter v Roma game is on Bravo (124), the Barca game on SS1 (401) and the Newcastle game on SS2 (402)

Fundamentalist - 26 Oct 2005 19:55 - 5331 of 10502

Newcastle putting out a pretty strong side vs Grimsby (only chance of silverware Sounness???) - wasnt good enough for Spurs in last round and 1.53 Newcastle looks a bit on the short side - will look to get involved later
