Any punters living in Birmingham Area interested in a Pie, Pint and jaw, one evening in a pub in Birmingham area.
Personally interested in small time investing(gambling), developing an appetite for CFDs. Also developing an interest in Charting or TA.

As mentioned during yesterdays meet:

For the first time in six years, it is now possible to earn interest on your savings of 7%. The recent rise in the cost of lending between banks, which has pushed up some mortgage rates, is now leading to higher savings on some accounts.

Another article concerning something else we were talking about yesterday:

"The global slowdown will be shaped by rising economies, not the old world"

So, anyone buying Northern Rock as a 'recovery' play...?!

Fred1new - 14 Sep 2007 08:56 - 539 of 1427

Probably a good play, but after you Jack.

survived87 - 14 Sep 2007 09:09 - 540 of 1427

Nope, I'll let you go first .....

Stan - 14 Sep 2007 09:10 - 541 of 1427

Banks... recovery? , take your pick and the risk.

survived87 - 14 Sep 2007 09:21 - 542 of 1427

Well, I've never bought a bank before .... don't really plan to start right now.... but in future they might present an even better 'recovery' play than 'today' if events keep unfolding....

And we still have no indication of "who owes who what" in America or over here yet -):

Fred1new - 14 Sep 2007 11:05 - 544 of 1427

I thought China and the Saudis owned America.

Forgot the Israelies' Share.

Think it is time to duck now. 8-)

I think when this period of market turmoil has finished and the hysteria has settle down, it will be seen as a lot of over reaction.

My feeling the real fly in the ointment is the Middle East, especially present warmongering against Iran. The drop out from Iraq and a little later similar from Afghanistan.

Also more important China's 10% inflation and whether they might dump the dollar hoard to embarras the American economy.

Tricky. Meanwhile I am holding on, but wishing a bit that like you and Survivor was watching.

At least Cains Beer (CBC) is up .... so that's the 'Pint' share (although I'm not a holder - yet) .... any suggestions for the 'Pie' share ...?

Stan - 14 Sep 2007 12:49 - 546 of 1427

"any suggestions for the 'Pie' share ...?"

Greggs springs to mind...but oh no they are retail!

Still like the sound of cash -):

>Greggs springs to mind

.... even they're up today at this time .... !!!

>Still like the sound of cash

Agreed..... but causes sleep loss due to lumpy mattress ...

Stan - 14 Sep 2007 12:57 - 548 of 1427

...I hadn't thought of that -):

How about Scottish cash..... "Shop warning over fake bank notes ... Scottish bank notes made from two pieces of waxy paper with a photocopied watermark and a metal strip sandwiched between them. "

...And with that it's back to the painting outside as the suns come out.

Decorating finished .... so already for annual ArtsFest weekend now .... unfortunately it looks like it might be the last one before the Council axe it.

PS: Presume the following venue is off the radar for the next meeting:
Fast food giant McDonald's has been fined 13,500 after a metal bolt was found in a snack at a West Midlands shopping centre. (Merry Hill).
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_midlands/6994646.stm

Wonder who got the nut....

PS: This seems to be the third most 'active' board so far today om moneyam. For some reason, Northern Rock seems to be the most active.
