FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

me too as ever, long UKX from 5250

cynic - 17 May 2010 20:52 - 5359 of 21973

dow has turned round 200 points from its low ..... what a scary market; indices only to be played when brain is fully functional and concentration absolute!

cynic - 18 May 2010 07:54 - 5360 of 21973

going long ftse this morning was at least an easy call ...... stacks of dosh to be made last night on dow if you were alert enough and called the right direction - but glad i wasn't involved!

Merkel wants to ban short selling

lol

cynic - 18 May 2010 20:29 - 5366 of 21973

pretty gruesome day in USA which is dragging down London heavily for the morrow .... just hope that does not presage poor news from RKH; that really would cheer me (not!)

HARRYCAT - 18 May 2010 22:09 - 5367 of 21973

Naked shorting banned in Germany, to take effect immediately. Suspect many other European countries will follow suit. Hedge funds (80% of which are U.K. based) due to take a hit maybe adding to FTSE decline?

cynic - 18 May 2010 22:19 - 5368 of 21973

brutal day in prospect tomorrow

Futures down 100 ,the markets are getting quite boring these days ,,,,bit like that woman on Katherine Tate who jumps and screams at the slightest noise .

splat - 19 May 2010 00:00 - 5370 of 21973

boring??? it's precisely what we want as traders isn't it?

cynic - 19 May 2010 07:51 - 5371 of 21973

quite tempting to go long ftse, but not sure i dare as i think there'll be a lot of forced closing this morning

cynic - 19 May 2010 08:18 - 5372 of 21973

all pretty gruesome as was almost inevitable ..... though i am not sure that pretty is quite a suitable word, it could have been much worse

cynic - 19 May 2010 09:11 - 5373 of 21973

while i was packing, i see all suddenly collapsed in a heap

HARRYCAT - 19 May 2010 10:40 - 5374 of 21973

Packing??? Off to the Falklands to do a bit of research for all of us???

cynic - 19 May 2010 10:46 - 5375 of 21973

Camelot - 19 May 2010 10:54 - 5376 of 21973

does that mean you are a lorry driver for BOC ?
:-)

cynic - 19 May 2010 10:59 - 5377 of 21973

BOC no longer exists ..... it was taken over about 2 years by Linde Gas, one of the 5 major airgas producers
