Hillary
Please sell KTS and ADN, close DGO Stick the lot on a short of SNGT.
Does this sound like desperation? Damn right!! But then I an only half way through "Beyond yer Zulu" so that's my excuse.
BTW how many people who post here are professionals? ie work for investment or financial institutions as opposed to full time day traders as opposed to casuals like myself.
Many thanks for running a great game in the absence of Golddog, I trust we all did better in real life than in the game except maybe the first 8.
cheers
Have a good if wet weekend.

Hil
If I'm not too late can I sell everything and long My Travel

hilary - 27 May 2003 08:36 - 540 of 591

No problem guys. I'll update the game a bit later on.

Mr Ashley James - 27 May 2003 14:32 - 541 of 591

Hil,

I can not blame you, but you seem to have left me off your list 23.05.2003

Where am I coming and how are the mighty miners doing?

I tried to come up with a more Lippie post, but understand you girlies have enough already (;-)0

hilary - 27 May 2003 14:39 - 542 of 591

Ashley,

I'm a bit confused by your post ......... you're certainly there on the link that I'm looking at.

I've updated the game to include the weekend trades and the updated should now be viewable by clicking here. However, when I clicked, I still got the update from 23rd even after refreshing, so maybe there are some dark mysterious forces at work. If it's still not working a bit later I'll try again.

hilary - 27 May 2003 14:46 - 543 of 591

I've republished it and it all seems to be OK now. You're definitely there, Ashley, and riding along merrily in 6th place.

Mr Ashley James - 27 May 2003 15:00 - 544 of 591

Hil,

Sorry when I last clicked I was in table miners but not listed top sumary list, which weird.

Thanks for all yr efforts on this running the game for us all.

Any news on GD?

Cheers

Ash

PS Worse mistake changing from ELAN Corp at 215p, would be well over 83,700 now at 360p!

pollyf - 27 May 2003 15:11 - 545 of 591

can I play too?

This_is_me - 27 May 2003 22:14 - 546 of 591

Hilary the game link produced a blank screen on Me computer after a flash of the tables and after Me played around with it for a while it crashed Me computer.

hilary - 28 May 2003 08:29 - 547 of 591

I'm sorry about that T_i_m, but I'm not so sure that I'm to blame. The table is certainly OK for me now. Would it be your computer, by any chance? I've heard that the BBC Acorn isn't so clever when it comes to the internet.

:-)

Don't worry ........ I'll update the game a bit later and we can see if that makes a difference.

This_is_me - 28 May 2003 10:04 - 548 of 591

Thanks for the warning - Me will now abandon plans to pension off Me Sinclair Spectrum and buy one of these new fangaled PC things.

It worked this morning when Me left it long enough - the problem may have been due to the CSS, or rather a number of CSSes. The download is huge and seems to contain vast amounts of trash from Jeff's bank's system - Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (Me supposes that is why they use the font-family:Tahoma!). They seem to be using Office 2000. Does that run on a BBC Acorn?

Most of the coding is just junk and probably automatically generated and there does not seem to be any need for javascript for this task.

PS Does Jeff speak Japanese?

hilary - 28 May 2003 10:21 - 549 of 591

T_i_m,

I think that all the junk is generated by Excel when it converts the spreadsheet to HTML. The conversion includes the formulae as well as the results. I don't know if it is possible for Jeff to just save the results and not the formulae. This would presumably cut out some of the junk. The rest of the HTML looks to be cell formatting though which is necessary. Jeff??

What sort of internet connection have you got? I'm on DSL and the page loads very quickly for me. I've also put a DHTML (trailing eyes) script into the page which doesn't seem to be working. I'll update the game in a little while and hope that it works a bit better.

Has anybody else had any problems?

This_is_me - 28 May 2003 11:51 - 550 of 591

Me is just dial up (the Spectrum can't keep up with anything else!)

Any other way of doing it would just give someone extra work (eg one of Jeff's secretaries!) It is possible to link two sheets in exel and just have the numbers in the second.

One solution in the long term would be to use one of the portfolio calculators for each contestant (eg the one on ADVFN) and copy the total directly into HTML. That way you don't have to copy prices.

hilary - 28 May 2003 12:27 - 551 of 591

T_i_m,

I've now updated the game. This time, Jeff has saved just the results and not the formulae and the file size is consequently about 2/3 of it's earlier size which should make it quicker to load. I've inserted the "watching eyes" script for a bit of fun, but that shouldn't make much difference. The updated should now be viewable by clicking here, but, like yesterday, it takes a little while for Pipex to update things.

The contest seems to be hotting up. There's only 400 difference between Jeroo and Foale now, so the race to the finish could be interesting.

little willie - 28 May 2003 16:04 - 552 of 591

Me is ignored and not in the hit parade, me flopped badly so me is pi**ed off..

ny last holding tip proved to be a DUD......BANG, BANG...lw

Ursidae - 29 May 2003 10:50 - 553 of 591

Hilary, that's a big improvement.
Now I can see exactly where I'm losing my money! I knew I should of closed my IMT short a couple of weekends ago, it's really come back strong and as for shorting NXT .... doh! I've even got some of my own hard earned on that one. Still, not too far now to break-even ... lol

hilary - 29 May 2003 11:17 - 554 of 591

Jeff,

If you're lurking, I've now got MS Office 2000 installed and I've converted the game file to xls.

There is still a problem with the formulae failing to convert though, but I think I can overcome it by saving the results rather than the formulae as you did yesterday. Trouble is, I can't fathom out how you save just the results. Help please??

jeffmack - 29 May 2003 11:36 - 555 of 591

Morning Hil
What I did was select all the cells copy and then paste special with values only to another worksheet. Then do the same again but on paste special choose formats only.
