How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Steve,

I've gone off the tennis recently having got stung a while ago. Thought I'd have a go on the nags. Only picked up small profits per race but quite happy with it.

On one of the races I layed the fav but couldn't back it back so was hoping to catch it in play. As it lost I managed to pick up a hefty profit!

fundy do you know why the spurs game is a 1pm k/off

Fundamentalist - 28 Oct 2005 17:38 - 5369 of 10502

Woodie

not sure but it will be driven by TV wanting to show the game and what time the police were happy with i guess

With regard to the horses, got stung earlier on a horse i backed and my lay hadnt been fully filled when the race started. Tried to lay the rest off in running but had no chance as the horse fell at the first and hence i lost some of my stake (thankfully 80% of the lay was filled when it fell). I only mention this as a reminder to those who consider trying to trade off in running as to what can happen and i have now added a further rule to my "gospel trading rules" - only ever trade horses when trading no other sport

Laid NZ after the Astle wicket with SA looking deadly and the visitors not getting the scoring moving. Looking good and staying short with 2nd wicket gone :-)

compoundup - 28 Oct 2005 18:26 - 5371 of 10502

NZ attacking. Covered for now. Big moves to trade here :-)

Fundamentalist - 28 Oct 2005 20:00 - 5372 of 10502

Hi compound

trying to sit on my hands as nice and green on the match and made a killing on 1st innings spread - been and painted the garage to have a break but came back and had to lay NZ at 1.26

Fundamentalist - 28 Oct 2005 20:03 - 5373 of 10502

Get in you beauty - another wicket!!!

Managed to lay some off at 2.0 - nice to see a wrong price appear :-) NZ still look a bit short to me

Afternoon All,

Spent most of the morning getting my head around the new dutching/bookmaking features. Its quite a potent and powerful tool but only in the right hands. I'll probably need to view the tutorials several times over before getting to grips with it fully.

Scrip, Thanks for the new features but is there a chance of adding a few more tutorials at a later date.

No trading yet, but I see that Spurs are already 1-0 up

Fundamentalist - 29 Oct 2005 15:55 - 5377 of 10502

fundy still waiting to be paid out on wigan match checked 1/2 hour ago still not settled?

Fundamentalist - 29 Oct 2005 16:45 - 5380 of 10502

Woodie

Got same with Leicester rugby game - match finished at 2.50 and at 4.40 its still not settled.

Dont know if you follow Rugby League but the first game in Tri Nations between GB and Kiwis kicks off at 5.30pm. Kiwis recently beat Australia and have been in good form, most of the GB players havent played any rugby for 6 weeks and several key players are missing. Was expecting NZ to be odds on favs but currently GB are 1.81 and NZ 2.38 - ive had a large lump on the Kiwis at nearly 2.5 - may be worth a look but all IMHO DYOR NAG etc etc

WOODIE - 29 Oct 2005 17:29 - 5381 of 10502

Scripophilist - 29 Oct 2005 17:41 - 5382 of 10502
