A new non-java Stockwatch is ready to try out - Technical Beta Test

IanT(MoneyAM) - 29 Jan 2014 07:42

As I'm sure you are aware, we and many of you have had a long and tiresome battle with Java when trying to use our streaming services. We have therefore been working on a solution to remove this problem.

We are pleased to announce that we have a new stockwatch available for use which no longer uses Java. We are currently making this available as a technical beta version, which means we are interested in your feedback regarding performance, bugs and browser/operating system/device compatibility issues (note: design and styling will be addressed in later beta releases).

For the purpose of allowing the old and new stockwatch versions to run concurrently, the technical functionality of the new stockwatch mimics the old one for now (not style, fonts or look). Editing and managing watchlists uses the same process as the current java stockwatch but is now at the top of the page. This will allow you to switch between the versions should you have any problems. All technical features of the current stockwatch are available in the new version except for the ability to drag resize columns. In the near future and as we migrate away from the java version of stockwatch, we will add new usability features as well as design it up to make the whole stockwatch experience smoother than it has ever been.

As this new version does not require java, you should expect it to work on your android devices and ipad/iphones. For now the display has not been optimised for smaller screens, but this will come in future development.

NOTE: Due to javascript performance in Internet Explorer 8, this new stockwatch can cause high CPU load. We recommend you use a current version of a modern browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for best results.

The new version can be found on the following link:

http://www.moneyam.com/stockwatch/beta.php

NOTE: Non java versions of streaming trades, streaming news and level 2 will be released over the coming weeks.

Please do not worry about design/style at the moment as this version has not been styled it is purely a technical beta test environment it will be styled before it is released. We have put this here purely for feedback on its technical functionality i.e does it work in your browser and on your PC/Laptop/Tablet/Mobile

Please post your technical feedback in this discussion thread

Thank you for your feedback and we hope you enjoy it

Looks like the background has altered (darkened), I think.

We had to merge the code-base for the new HTML Trades and Stockwatch so now they share a colour style. Having them separate caused the re-emergence of the old duplicate trades / flashing black problem when the Stockwatch was recently patched to remove trade data from previous days.

Is it just me or have the colours gone all faded?

I'm specifically referring to the red, green and blue colours used for the numbers in the Mid, Mid Chg, % Chg, Bid and Offer columns.

Read the last previous posts M2.

I use the notes column, which in my opinion is the one of the best things about stockwatch and as of today 20/6 the box has shrunk to a minuscule size. I know you can drag it out, but in my opinion it was MUCH better when you could just click on and read all of this size message without messing about. Can we have the bigger box back please! Or I'll sulk.

I thouht my eyesight was playing up this morning when I saw the colours...

itsonlymoney - Thanks for pointing this out, it was not intentional and will be fixed.

George (ex MoneyAM) - 23 Jun 2014 11:16 - 546 of 734

itsonlymoney - The notes issue has now been fixed.

I do prefer the new colours.

Would it be possible to add a VWAP coluln to the stocklists ?

It is already on the trades pages.

lost,

Sounds like your machine is not rendering the page correctly - can you try a different browser to see if you can replicate?

TANKER - 02 Jul 2014 13:57 - 551 of 734

FAR BETTER THAN JAVA

ExecLine - 02 Jul 2014 15:23 - 552 of 734

Any plans for knocking out and doing away with Java on the other stuff, Ian?

Come on, man! Speed o' light! Speed o' light!

:-)

IanT(MoneyAM) - 03 Jul 2014 07:37 - 553 of 734

I paid a subscription so that stockwatch would not keep dropping out. Works ok if you remain on a single watchlist, but as soon as I try to move to another watchlist, get thrown out and have to sign in again.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 07 Jul 2014 10:18 - 555 of 734

zscrooge,

if you are being asked to login when changing between lists or different pages on the site this is more than like ly a cookie issue on your machine. make sure you have session cookies enabled on your browser and also check that the time and date are correct on the machine?

Thanks

Ian

I have been using it for 2 days on the Chrome browser and it is brilliant - no problems at all
