THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

David Cameron still more trusted on NHS than Ed Miliband, survey shows

Voters still trust David Cameron more than Ed Miliband on the NHS, despite Labour having made the health service the main focus of its campaigning since the summer, a survey shows.

The ComRes poll shows that 22% say the prime minister is the party leader they most trust to manage the NHS, while 20% name the Labour leader.

Another way of putting it....

58% don't trust either Cameroon or Millibandus.

A piece in one of my financial comics says that Gordon Brown is not too far away from becoming Chairman of RBS.

After the May election he will no longer be an MP and will need something to do.

Funnily enough, Royal Bank of Scotland will be needing a new chairman, since Sir Philip Hampton will be switching to GlaxoSmithKline late in 2015.

Brown's CV looks right and he knows about finance (Yes? Yes!) and he is Scottish which should help with this particular bank. He can turn around dire situations and also play the long game (eg, against Tony Blair). RBS also owes him a favour after he rode to the rescue in 2009.

In fact, he is very near the absolute perfect match for the job!

Cyners Melton Mowbray is just a copyright label.

Lots of pies especially Tescos with that name on are total s-ite.

cynic - 30 Dec 2014 20:50 - 53984 of 81564

i wonder if you're right, for certainly you can't use the word champagne or even stilton for anything made outside the area

goldfinger - 30 Dec 2014 20:50 - 53985 of 81564

Go to a local respected butcher with a reputation for making good stamp pies.

And dont be fooled if they are competition winners the pies they put out for customers are no way as good as the pies they make for medals.

Here Cyners......

goldfinger - 30 Dec 2014 20:58 - 53988 of 81564

Still dont think they have a copyright, just think others copy them with it being such a well established name.

cynic - 30 Dec 2014 21:00 - 53989 of 81564

so gobmeister-fred, having given us lots of ancient history from your inestimable font of knowledge on almost everything, what is your solution for sorting out the NHS, let's say within 5 years .... after all, you keep telling us how 4 years should have been plenty, so with an extra year you should be able to save the world

goldfinger - 30 Dec 2014 21:00 - 53990 of 81564

Do you have the same tradition down south both xmas eve and new years eve, always a stamp pie with a few trimmings. ??

cynic - 30 Dec 2014 21:02 - 53991 of 81564

went to the shop many many years ago, but it doesn't answer the question as to whether "melton mowbray pies" have to be made within the area .... your extract rather implies that they do - ie rthe name "melton mowbray pies" is protected by the DOC laws, or whatever they are called

goldfinger - 30 Dec 2014 21:05 - 53992 of 81564

Cyners at some time in the NHS we are going to have to pay a small % of the total cost I feel just like in dentistry and prescriptions.

It will have to be means tested but the poor should be exempt and the rich shouldnt be taken for granted.

I honestly cant see any other way now.

But the last thing I want is the NHS being privatised.

FAIR FOR ALL.

cynic - 30 Dec 2014 21:05 - 53993 of 81564

i've never come across the phrase "stamp pie" .... what are they?

for us, tomorrow night will bring some home-made taramasalata (just made it!) followed by roast ribs of beef with yorkshire pud (of course!)

goldfinger - 30 Dec 2014 21:07 - 53994 of 81564

Cyners cant be then, I got one from Morrisons made in Bradford.

Must have to use certain ingredients principles etc etc.

goldfinger - 30 Dec 2014 21:08 - 53995 of 81564

What just before midnight.

MaxK - 30 Dec 2014 21:08 - 53996 of 81564

taramasalata and roast ribs of beef with yorkshire pud?

cynic - 30 Dec 2014 21:09 - 53997 of 81564

i've never had this fear of NHS being privatised exactly, and certainly some form of payment from those who can afford it cannot be a bad idea .... after all, if you can afford private health insurance, why should you not pay when you use the public service?

it's unlikely, but i'ld much rather see "pay when used" than an extra tax (extra NIC or hike in income tax) which would just disappear into the great maw of the treasury with no identifiable beneficiary

cynic - 30 Dec 2014 21:10 - 53998 of 81564

well done Max; you've learnt to read :-)

=============

i wonder if your morrison's pig pie was made from real pork :-)
not even a trace of horse?
