By the way, how did your Metastock install go?

zarif - 10 Nov 2003 21:10 - 544 of 2279

Snoball: the shorts ( ihad two open which paid me dividednds as ahedge against the longs which were 2/pt) the shorts were 15/pt.
I closed the longs at 9783 losing 216. and the 2 shorts gave me 1440 so the nett gain was 1224.

You are quite right without the shorts as back-up i would have had my fingers burnt.

re: metastock - i had guests at the weekend staying with us so was not able to do anything.Hopefully during the week will have it sorted out -and thanks for your offer when i get stuck i shall give u a shout.

getting ready for the auction.
I think it is going to nudge up a bit say 9800 trade sideways then if it creeps up then 9850 -but then its going to plummett (hopefully) down and if we are 9650 then definitely more downside to come.

what are your views???

Jusy closed the first short of the day opened 9749 closed at 9725 =24pts at 25/pt =600 -so that has more than even stevens for yesterdays loss of 216.

Just watching now to see what tops it gets to then short circuit all the way down -might need a parachute - ihope it sinks like a syone

Hi Zarif,

I don't trade the DOW but I like to read what you guys are
thinking about it as its action affects the FTSE.

If I may give a view.

As I said on the other thread in the investors' room.
Bond markets are closed so I'd expect stock volumes to
be lighter than normal.
This may lead to directionless, whippy, technical trading.
People won't want to take a hard position.
I wouldn't expect a big daily move up or down, so if you are going
for a plummet, as you say, make sure you don't get whipsawed.

Good luck with what ever you do.

Melnibone.

zarif - 11 Nov 2003 16:22 - 548 of 2279

quite right melnibone - I read your advice on TB and am following it to the letter -hence taking small pointage and out asap.then waith for battlelines to form-meanwhile glued to the screen -or u just end up watching at not doing anything

just opened another short at 9757 and waiting to get to me.

Yipee!!!!!!
Just closed the second short at 9737 opened at 9757 =20pts at 25/pt = 500 smackeroons tax free -gordon brown put that in your pipe and smoke it.
Creamed the dow so far for 1100.

just watching now -greed factor to see what it rises to and then short some more.

Guys take the door off its hinges to let me out.

Melnibone,
appreciate the input. Look forward to some more.

Nice work zarif. I closed up my stop loss and was stopped out of my short for zero points. It was 20 points up (i.e. down) at 7am. I think I will take a leaf out of your book and take the points when they come. Still, my risk management is getting better and my entry decisions are better. Now I have to improve my trade management.

Looking for the next short entry - probably at the close.

ajren - 11 Nov 2003 18:29 - 551 of 2279

Dow + S/P did move briefly into Positive territory but have since eased back.

Basically, trading is light due to partial Veterans day holiday

zarif - 11 Nov 2003 18:36 - 552 of 2279

ajren
Many thaks your input and please keep it coming as we all see things and information and iterpret it in our own ways which when pooled together gives a better picture and keeps us away from tunnell vision and WOODS FOR THE TREES scenario.

Glad my views were of some help, but remember that it's
your views that count, it's your money!

Had a look at your chart at the top of the thread and I
notice that it is whipping about as I posted that I thought
it would.

I was afraid that you might try and follow any break of
support and get creamed as it whipped back up.
Much better to short from resistance in this situation.

If you can trade that chart profitably then you are a better
man than me.
I take my hat of to you. I prefer a trend.

snoball - 11 Nov 2003 22:01 - 554 of 2279

Well, we are a bit short term here Melnibone, even if it is an investors board.
;-)

zarif - 12 Nov 2003 16:18 - 555 of 2279

hi guys just got in and dow was moving up.
I reckon it will down turn from 9800. if it shoots past then its up.the bond market is closed today due to veterans holiday.
i think volatility and whipsaws to beware off.

Wouldn't expect a trend today.

Market is looking to tomorrow.

We've got Michegan Confidence numbers, October retail figures,
jobless claims, and I think Walmart is due to report shortly.

zarif - 12 Nov 2003 18:23 - 557 of 2279

Scalped the dow before on the long for 660 while it was on its indian rope trick (mind u is still standing there like a pent up cobra)have got 2 shorts one opening at 9801 and other at 9766 (silly one but this only as 2/pt)

seems to be hovering around 9800 +/- 10 say. i hope it plummets down.

Guys start putting the lead weights on this rope!!!!!!!

Harlosh - 12 Nov 2003 20:05 - 558 of 2279

Hope you got in on the rise Zarif?
I take it you won't be here tomorrow if your off to Harrogate.
It will be rather dull without you unless we get another day like today.
Have a good day and see you back no doubt on Friday.

zarif - 12 Nov 2003 20:13 - 559 of 2279

harlosh would you beleive it i mangaged 75 on a short which opened before at 9801 and closed it at around 7pm 9796 at 15/pt as i was going formy tea.got today 660+75=735 today.
I wasnot in time to take another long out as didnot expect it to shoot up like that.
do you reckon will reach 9875.00 today. i think from 9900 will be a massive fall.

evenin' all.
I wonder what brought this rally on.
I haven't caught any of it.
good luck.

hkfooey - 12 Nov 2003 20:21 - 561 of 2279

Hi all! New to this thread.

Scalped Dow for 65, which was nice.

What will the last hour bring? Retracement or advance, key pivot moving horizontal at the moment!

zarif - 12 Nov 2003 20:36 - 562 of 2279

hkfooey:
the trin is showing .50 and very bullish.I think it should drop a bit but might just shoot up and the best course would be to just watch it as its trendless at present with the bond market closed and figures coming out tomorrow.
