Thought I'd start a new thread as this is going to be a major talking point this year...have not made up my mind yet...(unlike bucksfizz)....but thinking of voting for an exit as Europe is not doing Britain any good at all it seems....

3 months today, the sky hasn't fallen in yet, house prices haven't plummeted, interest rates haven't rocketed and unemployment hasn't shot up. There were so many 'experts' promising all the above, I wonder how they became 'experts', so many of them got it completely wrong some are even back-tracking now.

imo we are still in for some very lumpy times over the next 2/3 years
world economics may dictate otherwise, but those sure need to improve significantly

They didn't get it wrong George , they deliberately misled . imo .

cynic you are right of course, I think most of us 'leavers' said as much at the time.

Vicky, misleading people so that's what they are expert at is it, well they were pretty rubbish at that as well.

Well the next one is----- Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced that the Hungarian government will hold a referendum on whether to accept the European Union's proposed mandatory quotas for relocating migrants. He also said it is "no secret that the Hungarian government refuses migrant quotas" and will be campaigning for "no" votes.

don't look too carefully at the complection of the hungarian gov't as it has a distinct whiff of nazism about it .... check out the long-running protest to the memorial in szabadsag square (budapest)

Hollande confirms Calais migrant camp shutdown, urges UK help

CALAIS, France, Sept 26 (Reuters) - President Francois Hollande said on Monday that France will completely shut down "the Jungle" migrant camp in Calais and called on London to help deal with the plight of thousands of people whose dream is ultimately to get to Britain.

"The situation is unacceptable and everyone here knows it," Hollande said on a visit to the northern port city where as many as 10,000 migrants from war-torn countries such as Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan live in squalour.
"We must dismantle the camp completely and definitively," he said.

France plans to relocate the migrants in small groups around the country but right-wing opponents of the Socialist leader are raising the heat ahead of the election in April, accusing him of mismanaging a problem that is ultimately a British one.

The migrants want to enter Britain, but the government in London argues that migrants seeking asylum need to do so under European Union law in the country where they enter.

Immigration was one of the main drivers of Britain's vote this year to leave the EU. It is also likely to be major factor in France's presidential election.

If France stopped trying to prevent migrants from entering Britain, Britain would ultimately find tself obliged to deal with the matter when asylum-seekers land on its shores a short distance by ferry or subsea train from France's Calais coast.

Hollande bluntly reminded Britain of that, saying that he expected London to fully honour agreements on managing a flow of migrants.

"I also want to restate my determination that the British authorities play their part in the humanitarian effort that France is undertaking and that they continue to do that in the future," Hollande said.

London and Paris have struck agreements on issues such as the recently begun construction of a giant wall on the approach road to Calais port in an attempt to try to stop migrants who attempt daily to board cargo trucks bound for Britain.

Do they even try to stop them entering France , probably not allowed to though . Trouble is if we take loads it will get out and even more will come from these countries , it just perpetuates the problem .

The French said exactly the same about the Sangette camp when the Labour
government capitulated and let thousands into this country, just to solve the
problem you understand.

And now we're finding out that this problem NEVER went away, is still there
and the French still want us to fall for that disgusting ploy once again..

And there is also the deceiving Sarkozy, who is spouting about closing the
'jungle' down and other such B.S that he failed to carry out when in power,
He's now giving out this rubbish and lies to negate the Front National in his
efforts at getting back into power ..

The French might ...and I say might mean good intentions when they close the camp but where are these people going to go ?....the camp closes ..fine...now what ; they start another one further along the beach perhaps ?...or do they let them bound a train to England without us knowing...aha ! : you have to suspect everything nowadays !....it sounds like nonsense politics to me...come to think : a lot of french overseas policies remind me : of the effects of having an ostrich with a loud-hailer...really....
