Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

If you ever watched The Magic Roundabout, it was pretty obvious that Spliff i.e. high on or maybe some other chemically induced substance was prevalent on every occasion! :o)

Are the French murdering ISIS (????) assassins trying to come over to the UK?
I see they may have now robbed a service station in the north of France, firing shots as they did so.
Hmmm? What has the armed robbery of a service stations got to do with defending the 'cartoon damaged' name of Islam?

What is the difference,( other than the severity), of the attacks in France and the withdrawl of the contract for the rapist footballer. The board of Oldham FC are quoted as saying the pressure from sponsors, and death threats against staff have been made so they have withdrawn contract which was expected today or tomorrow.
I have no views re the footballer being given a contract but bending under threats will lead to more threats and more governing by fear

It's an interesting debate concerning the rapist footballer.
He was found guilty and served his sentence.
Now he is back in circulation but insists he was actually innocent as he now communicates to the world at large.
Certain members of the public, particularly female ones, can't seem to accept his lack of remorse.
IMHO, this lack of remorse sensibly and automatically goes with his own denial of his guilt (despite his sentencing).
These certain members of the public seem to feel the lack of remorse is of utterly vital importance for his total acceptance back into society. Consequently, they will not let the matter go.
Other people are joining in negatively towards him on the band wagon of it all. They include football sponsors, team mates, player's WAGs, etc, etc.
The only way this guy is going to beat the potential bigotry off it all, is to go to appeal - AND WIN.
The longer this takes, the highly emotive subject matter of 'Rape is Wrong' is going to win the day and lose him support.
He may never win. If he actually is truly innocent, then he has my sympathy. But how would I know I am right in the giving of it? I won't.
He was found guilty. I guess he has to suffer the consequences or fight the battle.
Football also has commercial considerations to make. Simply put, 'this guy has too much baggage'. It is surely not a good idea to take him onto the books.

stable - is your info actually correct - ie fully up to date? ..... i was certainly under the impression that oldham were proceeding having been assured that their main sponsor would stand by them
whether or not the guy should be taken on by oldham at all is a different argument
EL - it is exactly this lack or remorse that sticks in the throat ..... he's welcome to maintain his innocence (whether true or not), but at the very least he should be apologising for what was at best a "misunderstanding of wish"

His conviction is currently under investigation and yes he is appealing.
He has served his time and people are punishing him further by denying him the chance to earn his living. Even if he is guilty there is no obligation to show remorse.
This is all about pressure from a politically correct aggressive minority. They should be ignored and football clubs be allowed to make their choices without interference.

while there is no obligation to show remorse, oldham's fans equally have no obligation to accept him back ..... as the club is ultimately reliant on its fans, then it would do well to pay attention if the objection is widely enough voiced

Oldham have now decided not sign Evans. His old club, Sheffield, bowed to fans and threats. Oldham have now bowed to threats. It is a trend in these times. A vociferous minority often has a greater sway than the silent majority. It occurs in many areas such as religion, politics, demonstrations. It gives these minority views a value beyond their worth.

bowed to threats or bowed to loudly and strongly voiced objections from their fans albeit that some were pretty disgraceful in their content?
