THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

DB4.

Suggest you look at :

http://cdn.johnhenry.net/rac/rac_foundation2/content/downloadables/roads%20and%20reality%20-%20bayliss%20-%20accident%20trends%20by%20road%20type%20-%20160309%20-%20background%20paper%209.pdf

Have a look at the charts!

(They are not pure.)

In general motorways are safer than other roads.

Accidents, I haven't checked but from memory accident levels in "juniors" far higher than "seniors". Hence difference in insurance costs.

I must admit I do slip over the speed limit and have to "slow", but since driving a "heavy" vehicle as well as a "normal" car, for last 20 years, have become aware of "breaking" distances and real "manoeuvrability" and reduced my speeds according to conditions by approximately 20%.

(Strangely, on the continent I find my speed is usually just within defined and shown speed limits. )

DB4,

PS.

Cars are used as weapons, as can be seem from the behaviours and "murders" using them over the last few years.

The driving of some can be seen as using a "dangerous" weapon with disregard for others.

Pedestrians, mown down on pavements etc, and Airport in Scotland etc..

==========

Manuel,

Are you suggesting you knowingly wish to overtake somebody in the outside lane at more than 70 MPH.

It is indicative of THE LAW APPLIES to OTHERS, NOT ME. Strikes me as psychopathic.

I think you need a personality scan to see if you are still allowed out!

It looks like Cameron is on the right lines!

http://order-order.com/2015/01/15/72-say-let-greens-in-leaders-debate/

72% Say Let Greens in Leaders Debate

How much is Dave’s “chicken” debate demand to let the Greens take part hurting him with voters? A YouGov/Sun poll today finds 7 in 10 agree with the PM that Natalie Bennett should be allowed in. Meanwhile, overnight:

Guido understands as of yesterday UKIP’s memberships stands at 41,943, but the Greens have now overtaken that. Over to the broadcasters…

Fred1new - 15 Jan 2015 11:46 - 55073 of 81564

DO THEY HAVE MORE REAL MEMBERS than THE TORRID PARTY YET?

Perhaps. they can't afford the "DONATION" LEVEL for backhanders that applies!

doodlebug4 - 15 Jan 2015 11:48 - 55074 of 81564

Cameron made that point about the Green Party yesterday at PMQs - much to Clegg's discomfort! Very amusing.

Fred1new - 15 Jan 2015 11:50 - 55075 of 81564

I agree the Green's should be have a representative included in the Election Debate, as well as the SNP.

Not sure about smaller groups i.e. Plaid etc..

How you organise such a debate has its problems???

This candidate talks some sense! I see 79% of voters would vote him in - as against ony 21% for Nigel Farage:

The Al Murray Manifesto

• The pound in your pocket

The pound will be revalued at one pound 10p, so it will now be worth 10p more. Common sense.

• The NHS

If you come to A&E and it’s neither an accident nor an emergency then you will be sent to a random hospital department to be practised on. Common sense.

• Foreign Policy

Germany has been too quiet for too long. Just saying.

• Immigration

Of course the reason they are coming here is because this is the greatest country in the world.

The only way to stop them is for a government to change that and make things a whole lot worse. Look no further.

However, in the meantime, we brick up the Channel Tunnel. With British bricks.

Probably have to get some Poles in to do it. Common sense.

• Education

I believe the children are the future and there’s no way you'll get me knocking teachers.

Teachers are on the front line, coalface. Doing their bit to create a level playing field for our kids, although I'm not sure they're going about it the right way by making sure none of the kids can read and write.

So instead of a postcode lottery a new improved Street Raffle will determine which schools your kids get in to. Common sense.

• Scotland

Alex Salmond to be made First Minister for Norwich, so he can get to understand what being ignored by the rest of the country is really like. Common sense.

• Europe

I pledge that the UK will leave Europe by 2025 and the edge of the Solar System by 2050. Common market sense.

In the meantime Greece to be bought and operated by Kent County Council. Couldn’t be worse. Someone to do the bins at least.

• The environment

Boris Johnson to be put on an island. He keeps saying that’s what he wants.

• Corporations and Globalisation

Blah blah blah blah blah paradigm blah blah blah, blah blah dialectic blah blah blah blah blah blah game-changer.

• Homes for hard working families

Build some houses but without bringing down house prices. How hard can it be?

• Defence

National Service, but only for people who don’t want to do it.

• Law and Order

Unemployment causes crime: I propose to lock up the unemployed. Common sense.

• On Local Issues

South Thanet to be made the new capital of the UK. Demilitarised zone to set-up between North and South Thanet.

General Election 2015: Nigel Farage to get same BBC airtime as David Cameron
The BBC says: 'UK-wide programmes must ensure that UKIP is given appropriate levels of coverage in output to which the largest parties contribute and, on some occasions, similar levels of coverage.'

Greens will have less coverage.

We may see an empty podium, as Cameron melts away.

Three people killed in anti-terror raid in Verviers, Belgian federal prosecutor says, after local residents report hearing gunfire and explosions

Three people have been killed during a terrorism-related police operation against suspected jihadists in Belgium, a federal prosecutor said.

Local residents in Verviers, in the east of the country, heard a fusillade of machine gun shots and explosions.

Reports indicate that the gunfight followed a foiled jihadist attack on a local police station.

“A second Paris has been avoided,” a ministry of justice source told Nieuwsblad newspaper.

A local resident said: "I heard two explosions and saw two young men run away. They were between 25 and 30 years of Arab origin."

Another local resident told RTBF television: "I heard a sort of explosion, followed by several gunshots. For the moment, I cannot tell you any more because I don't dare go out to see what is happening."

A third resident said "machineguns were firing for about 10 minutes."

A number of people have been arrested. The operation is now believed to be over.
