>So who's in control of Bir. Council these days?

No overall control so it's a Lib-Con alliance.
They want Brum to be seen as a 'world class city' - but axing the things like the ArtFest ain't going to help. The ArtsFest seemed to be starting to establish itself but the strong rumours are that this'll be the last one. It's well organized, a great family orientated weekend, and the B'ham residents get something entertaining for their Council Tax payments - as well as it attracting visitors from outside the city.

Enjoy your weekend....

Weekend over .... The ArtsFest was very well organised..... Let's hope they do keep it. Here's the fireworks....

http://icbirmingham.icnetwork.co.uk/mail/video/videos/tm_headline=artsfest-fireworks%26method=full%26objectid=19805052%26siteid=50002-name_page.html

Both the Council House and Town Hall were open to visitors. Not sure the choice of seats installed in the refurbished Town Hall would have been my first choice (or even second etc.) - and plain light brown carpets in some areas of it might soon show up dirt & stains quickly...

ArtsFest seemed very well attended although size of queue in Temple Row (outside Northern Rock) was probably bigger than attendences at some of the smaller venues. The Old Flying Pie Joint Theatre was one of the venues this year.

Anyone likely to be going to the SG covered warrants seminar in Birmingham on Wednesday 14th November?

Stan - 17 Oct 2007 11:50 - 558 of 1427

Sounds like an interesting idea, signed up but as usual may have to pull out at short notice.

survived87 - 17 Oct 2007 14:36 - 559 of 1427

Noted. Let's see if more turn up than did at an SG CW seminar in London last year.... it ended up being a short one to one tutorial.... !

There's also a Worldspreads SB / CFD Seminar at the Copthorne Hotel this Wednesday evening .... anyone likely to be going to that...?

Stan - 22 Oct 2007 16:12 - 561 of 1427

Could be interested, what are the registration details etc. been on their site but no details.

Booked, how about a pre-meeting pint in the nearby Wellington (Bennetts Hill) say 5pm?

survived87 - 22 Oct 2007 18:10 - 564 of 1427

Fine... Wellington @ 5pm....

Been there before but couldn't appreciate it as a bad lunch from another bar earlier in the day had started affecting the system...!!

Was in the one just down the hill (Briar Rose) a few days ago ... don't know what was in the Pedigree tap but it certainly didn't taste like anything from Marstons. Also tried the refurbed Old Contemptibles (near Snow Hill) recently... Pesigree was off and the London Pride and Bass were 'debateable' - but sausage sandwich was excellent.

Stan - 22 Oct 2007 18:24 - 565 of 1427

Excellent, see you in there at 5pm.

"Was in the one just down the hill (Briar Rose) a few days ago ... don't know what was in the Pedigree tap but it certainly didn't taste like anything from Marstons."

Witherspoon's quality can be questionable these days unfortunately.

I hope the old saying of "buy cheap and you buy twice" didn't apply -):

Didn't realise Briar was Witherspoons until after entering the bar (the board outside was advertising a real ale festival 1st Nov - xx Nov). The video display behind the bar was advertising the number of real ale pints served in the previuos week - was something like 1446.
At Old Contemptibles guess I was just unlucky as bar staff kept apologising as they said it was down to new delivery that morning. (They also tried to palm off on me a Scottish 5 note).

That's why I like The Bartons Arms - good decor, good food at reasonable price, excellent range of real ales usually well kept, and no funny money in change. Pity about its location though. And at least the gentlemens rest room is actually on same floor as the bar (unlike Briar & Old C). And no pie throwing by waitresses (unlike Old Joint Stock).

At The Wellington we can have a toast to Fred ....

Fred1new - 22 Oct 2007 20:55 - 567 of 1427

I hope you boys behave yourselves without my supervision.

Have a good meeting. Maybe I will be able to join you again in about 4-6 weeks time. That is if I can get out of hawkeye's sight, without her noticing.

Not allowed to stir my own tea at the moment. 8-)

Regards to all.

So, presume that you're drinking the amber liquid through a straw from 'lucozade' bottles then?

Look forward to seeing you when you escape.

PS: Don't forget.... no sports cars or bucket seats .....

Stan - 24 Oct 2007 11:55 - 569 of 1427

Looks like just you and I Chris.

Excellent site for the Wellington I thought: http://www.thewellingtonrealale.co.uk

Especially the live Ale board, not seen that before anywhere.

Fred, give you a call early Thursday evening if thats convenient?.

survived87 - 24 Oct 2007 12:16 - 570 of 1427

Stan.... thanks for link..... I remember the range of ciders when I was in there before (probably best avoided this afternoon)...... and the guard cat.... see you @5.....

55011 - 24 Oct 2007 12:26 - 571 of 1427

I've got myself down for that do at the Copthorne. If I can tear myself away from the screen - watching a great deal of not a lot - mind if I join you aforehand? Is/was the cider the "proper" farm stuff?

survived87 - 24 Oct 2007 12:38 - 572 of 1427

See you there if you make it to Wellington .... from what I remember it was several varieties of 'farm & strong'...

Fred1new - 24 Oct 2007 12:40 - 573 of 1427

Stan anytime is OK.
