THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

cynic - 02 Feb 2015 12:54 - 56227 of 81564

you're fully entitled to your opinion, though i suspect you never bothered to read GF's excellent Charts thread

Chris Carson - 02 Feb 2015 13:08 - 56228 of 81564

I did actually cynic and I have stated many times that his stock picking was very good that has never been an issue. His attitude to other posters who disagreed with him is, was the problem imo. Trashing threads and throwing his dolly out the pram is in black and white for all to see. I can live without him can you?

jimmy b - 02 Feb 2015 13:09 - 56229 of 81564

I learnt a bit from GF when i first came on MAM ,he's right on calls a lot more than he's wrong .

I just can never see the point of any argument on the net if you can't end up punching some ones lights out it will end up being quite frustrating .

jimmy b - 02 Feb 2015 13:12 - 56230 of 81564

He did go a bit strange the last few months Chris and that's odd because he had a wise head on him where markets are concerned ..

Chris Carson - 02 Feb 2015 13:16 - 56231 of 81564

Agreed jimmy.

jimmy b - 02 Feb 2015 13:17 - 56232 of 81564

Is that GF's wise head or punching some ones lights out ?

cynic - 02 Feb 2015 13:20 - 56233 of 81564

Chris - i even learnt to live without my mother :-)

GF's strengths and constructive contributions are here for all to see, and an awful lot of work went into that Chart thread too

unfortunately, he is also far too easily goaded into silliness, but i would hope that he can readily learn to ignore and avoid that sort of nonsense

personally, i think his research and thoughtful contributions far outweigh the negatives, and that a yellow card will thus be deemed sufficient

Chris Carson - 02 Feb 2015 13:20 - 56234 of 81564

Both :0)

jimmy b - 02 Feb 2015 13:24 - 56235 of 81564

Maybe we should try and get him re instated

hilary - 02 Feb 2015 13:27 - 56236 of 81564

This is a matter for Fishfinger and Doods to sort out privately between themselves and with Mike and Ian. This isn't anything to do with anybody else whatsoever.

Both Mike and Ian are reasonable guys, and they won't have taken the decision to turf the pair of them off the board lightly. I'm sure they'll be happy to speak to both Fishfinger and Doods if they bother to get in touch. But, if I were either Mike or Ian, I'd be pretty p!ssed off if I had cyners (or any other poster) ringing me up, interfering in something that wasn't my business, and trying to discuss the matter in general. Sorry, cyners, nothing personal, but I would've thought your intervention would go down like a pork sausage at a bar mitzvah.

And, fwiw, I'm sorry to see the pair of them booted off. Aside from looking upon Fishfinger as my personal plaything who I could tease at the drop of a hat, he was a valuable contributor to the forum and his contentious and confrontational approach made for good viewing. I fear the number of posts on both this and other threads will significantly tail off in his absence.

cynic - 02 Feb 2015 13:28 - 56237 of 81564

if that shot was related to the golf match, then stoke poges gc was then a lovely if rather decrepit location

cynic - 02 Feb 2015 13:29 - 56238 of 81564

that's ok hils .... my communication was by e-mail

jimmy b - 02 Feb 2015 13:30 - 56239 of 81564

I'll start a thread ,i can even post charts now !!

Chris Carson - 02 Feb 2015 13:31 - 56240 of 81564

cynic - Let's not have a petty slanging match. Sad for you that you can no longer ride on the back of his picks. Guess you will have to do your own research. Lifes a bitch and then you die. Silliness may be your interpretation of his behaviour. Vindictiveness and mental problems are mine. I wish him well.

cynic - 02 Feb 2015 13:35 - 56241 of 81564

chris - i don't do slanging matches, or at least not for long when i do
of late, i have been concentrating on the indices, and they have served me very well
much as it may surprise you, i didn't often follow GF's recommendations as they tended to be rather ex post facto

ExecLine - 02 Feb 2015 13:55 - 56242 of 81564

Hilary

I agree with your sentiments in your post above. But I do think a 'Yellow Card' has previously been handed out and that's why the current one is a 'Red Card'.

Using different usernames might be an idea to an Internet novice but, as you know, each and every computer has its own unique identity. This makes ita simple task to check a new username with an old identity. And even using the Internet via a proxy doesn't really work as an alternative because of the member's need for a Username and Password.

This makes re-registering under a different ID without being caught just about impossible.

What is needed is for the member to be truly remorseful and penitent as well as to show discipline. This doesn't work too well as a way towards a solution if that same member person is also arrogant.

ExecLine - 02 Feb 2015 14:16 - 56243 of 81564

Another solution would be for selected people to be given the task of being an 'unpaid' Trader's Room or Investor's Room Moderator or at least with the salary for the job remunerated out by way of a free subscription(s).

But it is a rather boring job, I would guess, and most probably suited towards someone who is, say physically handicapped or house bound.

I guess it could be made to work as other users would merely e-mail the Moderator (or telephone if the moderation requirement is more serious).

What's happened just shows that you cannot actally trust people to behave and that Moderation is most definitely required.

My suggestion would be to now combine both boards and appoint some Moderators. Only 'one Moderator' would not work merely because of holidays, etc.

I also do think, that to see a username, as in eg. 'Stickyfinger (Moderator)' doing the odd occasional post would in itself have a very calming influence on te rest of us. I'm also sure Bullshare has a few mates out there who might agree to take on the job, merely to see if the idea of such a poster's 'Moderator' username being shown around the place actually works. And of course, the Moderator can also have the power to 'Edit out'.

Anyhow, that's my 'two penn'orth'.

:-)

Stan - 02 Feb 2015 14:39 - 56244 of 81564

I thought there already is a moderator E/L, his name being Ian.

Bullshare - 02 Feb 2015 14:39 - 56245 of 81564

Execline; We have had moderators since we stated in 2003, they very kindly watch the BBs when others sleep, currently there are 5 who do a fantastic job for us all.

Mike

Fred1new - 02 Feb 2015 14:40 - 56246 of 81564

But we already we have an unpaid moderator call synic, or something or other.

He/she is already chirping in like my mother and wife.

But it is perhaps attack the message and not the messenger.

Now where has that bastide gone!
