How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Looks like Mourinho will have to ask that nice Mr Abramovic for another 50-100m to spend in the january sales lol

bakko - 06 Nov 2005 17:55 - 5624 of 10502

Well done Reds!.....A well deserved and needy victory.

After that performance, I expect Keane will be offered a weekly 'slag off the team' slot on MUTV. LOL!

lol sealed

anyone on the madrid game?

bakko - 06 Nov 2005 18:09 - 5627 of 10502

Not yet but will look into it. Done very nicely today and only prepared to risk small amounts, if at all.

Was looking at Mgladbach v Hamburg odds about 5mins ago. Draw odds collapsed from 1.8 to 1.35 in that time!

Will definitely concentrate on this breakdown in odds in the future...Looks very lucrative!

Woodgates woes continue. Off with a hamstring injury.

Fundamentalist - 06 Nov 2005 19:34 - 5630 of 10502

Fundamentalist - 06 Nov 2005 19:36 - 5631 of 10502

lol hes given Robinho a second penalty in 2 mins - both a bit suspect

Fundamentalist - 06 Nov 2005 19:36 - 5632 of 10502

Roberto Carlos refused to let Robinho take it again

sealed - 06 Nov 2005 19:58 - 5633 of 10502

Also had a lucky escape. Had literally just started scalping the draw when the 1st penalty was given. lol

bakko - 06 Nov 2005 20:07 - 5634 of 10502

Ditto here too. Stuck a small stake on the draw at 1.98 hoping to leave for 5-10 mins and to green up. Then came the Barce pen. Managed to trade out with a small profit on Barca win.

That's it, no more trading tonight otherwise will definitely undo today's good work.

Edit...I think I meant Real Mad and not Barca

sealed - 06 Nov 2005 20:08 - 5635 of 10502

LOL!
Riding my luck tonight. Managed to scalp a point in the over/unders before Barca scored.

Fundamentalist - 06 Nov 2005 20:12 - 5636 of 10502

Currently watching the golf - just flicked over to see what time Barca kick off to see theyre 1-0 up already

sealed - 06 Nov 2005 20:25 - 5637 of 10502

Barca scored after just 58secs.

Fundamentalist - 09 Nov 2005 19:57 - 5638 of 10502

Anyone trading the glasgow derby tonight ? Its on BBC Scotland (ch941 on sky digital).

Im confused by the rules slightly on the match odds - if i am reading it correctly the draw odds only apply after 120 mins not 90 mins and if so looks awfully short at 3.5. Can anyone check the rules and see if they agree with me

2005-11-09 19:45 Europe/London (GMT+0.00) For further information please see Rules & Regs. Predict the result of this match. At kick off all unmatched bets will be cancelled and the market turned in play. All bets apply to the full 90 minutes, plus injury time. Extra-time/penalty shoot-outs are not included. The market will be suspended if it appears that a goal has been scored, a penalty will be given, or a red card will be shown. Unmatched bets will be cancelled in the event of a confirmed goal or sending off. Users should be aware that transmissions described as live by some broadcasters may actually be delayed.

Based upon the time of the match I would put the odds at around:-

2.24, 3.43, 3.80
HW, HD, HL

So it looks about right.

Scripophilist - 09 Nov 2005 20:04 - 5640 of 10502

On 90 mins the draw should be trading around 1.59 for a 120 minute match in this case.

Fundamentalist - 09 Nov 2005 20:08 - 5641 of 10502

Thanks scrip

i miss rwad the rules initially but thanks for your view

Rangers look like they cant buy a goal at the moment so looking to back celtic

Also, Costa Rica v France game may be worth a look on the goals market. This is a game to raise money for charity and France have accordingly picked an attacking starting XI :

Barthez - Gallas, Thuram (cap), Givet, Abidal - Wiltord, A.Diarra, Dhorasoo, Malouda - Anelka, Henry

Currently over 2.5 available at 1.8 looks exceptionally good value and may look at some of the higher goals odds (the last charity game i believe ended 6-3)

Scripophilist - 09 Nov 2005 20:11 - 5642 of 10502

90 mins + injury time would exclude extra time.

Incidentally the odds would reamin the same even if it were different lengths of match based upon the most commonly used models. All that would vary would be the time decay during the match.
