THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

ISIS atrocity
i could not think of a calmer word, and on reflection it would not be merited
the execution of this pilot would be bad enough, but burning him alive was truly stomach-turning - absolutely i shall not watch it, and the authorities should remove it

however, the question posed by MrT was, "how should the jordanians react?"
executing the ISIS bomber was the only response possible, but at least it was done quickly and (i think) out of public gaze

i thoroughly agree that other spiritual and temporal leaders around the muslim world should make themselves heard loud and clear in utter condemnation of this barbaric act

however, even if that outcry is lily-livered and muted, there is no excuse whatsoever for the rest of us to allow a wave of general anti-muslim feeling and action to overwhelm us

the majority of muslims are just like the rest of us, but happen to follow a different faith
why should they not do so, or more pointedly, why should they be tarred with the same brush as these ISIS extremists?

MaxK - 04 Feb 2015 09:04 - 56313 of 81564

Yes, I'm sure we will see lots of "not in my name" protests from the muslim community.

TANKER - 04 Feb 2015 09:14 - 56314 of 81564

the muslim they call john is rom the uk yet is family or friends have not disclosed is name so they agree with and support isil. and until the muslims speak out then they are all the same . my views so come on you good non terrorists muslims speak out and clean the name of islam . your silence is not good

TANKER - 04 Feb 2015 09:17 - 56315 of 81564

all those that have gone to join isil must never be allowed back in to the uk

Not much it don't!

cynic - 04 Feb 2015 09:48 - 56317 of 81564

did anyone watch the prog on BBC2 last night about the inside workings of parliament?
it was really interesting and further episodes to follow

a couple of women MPs, one from each side, got good coverage
the labour one from Rotherham was very impressive and it was a nice touch to see Cameron thanking and congratulating her for her excellent question in PMQs re child abuse

TANKER - 04 Feb 2015 09:49 - 56318 of 81564

stan I see you have no views on major issues like terrorists . are you one who gets under the table

Stan - 04 Feb 2015 09:52 - 56319 of 81564

Alf,

Never mind the "nice" platitudes from these people, its their actions (if any) that people will scrutinise.

cynic - 04 Feb 2015 10:02 - 56320 of 81564

as you obviously did not watch, it OUGHT to be difficult for you to comment

what a wonderful character the clerk was ..... he was clearly much moved by the spontaneous applause he got
i very much hope that the "new boy" will continue in and with the same tradition .... there's much to be said for it even if it is of another age
