THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

PIERS MORGAN: Watching ISIS burn a man alive was the most abominable thing I have ever seen - and any Muslim who won't stand up to these barbarians must watch it

what a wonderful character the clerk was ..... he was clearly much moved by the spontaneous applause he got
i very much hope that the "new boy" will continue in and with the same tradition .... there's much to be said for it even if it is of another age

Jordan has executed two convicts, including a female jihadist, following the killing of one of its air force pilots by Islamic State (IS) militants.

The woman, failed suicide bomber Sajida al-Rishawi, and al-Qaeda operative Ziyad Karboli - both Iraqi nationals - were hanged at dawn, officials said.

The executions came hours after IS posted a video appearing to show pilot Moaz al-Kasasbeh being burned alive.

Jordan earlier vowed an "earth-shattering" response after IS posted a video online showing what militants say is the pilot standing in a cage engulfed in flames.

One of the leading authorities in Sunni Islam condemned the killing, saying the burning to death of Lt Kasasbeh violated Islam's prohibition on the mutilation of bodies.

In a statement released on Tuesday night, Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of al-Azhar University in Egypt, called for the "killing, crucifixion of IS terrorists".

In general I'm not sure that escalation achieves much in the medium to long term.

ISIS atrocity

1) but burning him alive was truly stomach-turning –

Yes, but dropping cluster bombs, bombing from 20000 feet on to unseen “enemies” with the consequences of maiming, “burning”, killing etc. is no less atrocious, barbaric or inhumane.

Using unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones “to take out a said “enemy””, with acceptance of collateral damage of non-involved families and civilians. (Sometimes, burning to death.)

Also, the pilot as was his job prepared to “legally” kill the “enemy”.

Was killing out of public gaze the answer. Perhaps the public should see what they often call for.

What has it improved by doing so.

Has it concreted one barbaric action in one group of individuals as the correct action or reinforced those who indulge in the rightfulness of barbaric actions.

2) Ii thoroughly agree that other spiritual and temporal leaders around the muslim world should make themselves heard loud and clear in utter condemnation of this barbaric act

Agreed it should be condemned, as similar actions, even if surgically and cleanly done by USA, Britain , Russia or any other country.

3) the majority of muslims are just like the rest of us, but happen to follow a different faith why should they not do so, or more pointedly, why should they be tarred with the same brush as these ISIS extremists?

I agree. Watching the actions of the actions of various wars the actions of combatants are similar whether Christian, Moslem, Hindu, Atheists. Look at former Yugoslavia, Orthodox against Catholics, against Moslems. (Multitudes of barbaric actions in the names of each group.)

Short reply.

But what I see is inevitable in order to have a “reasonable” world is the strengthening of the United Nations, removing of the veto and it being giving it the necessary resources and strength of “police force” and unfortunately the “weapons” to enforce, “reasonable” law and order.

(The world is just a reflection of its various tribes.)

cynic - 04 Feb 2015 10:54 - 56329 of 81564

escalation by whom?

i would have agreed had you written that escalation of terror tactics by ISIS will be counter-productive in the long run, not least because it is being carried out in an area where there is comparatively easy access and reporting by the world's media - unlike china, north korea and in times past, stalinist russia

cynic - 04 Feb 2015 10:57 - 56330 of 81564

fred - sorry but i can't be bothered to respond in detail to your post from utopia, though one or two points are indeed valid

As said, in general.

first we had a malaysian airlines plane crashing (disappearing), then it was one from airasia and now transasia joins the sorry line

i'd better refrain from commenting as for sure it would upset someone

and now for a bit of frothy gossip .....

Lewis Hamilton and Nicole Scherzinger

News of the split comes just months after the pair were rumoured to be getting engaged but Nicole threw in the towel when the motor racing star wouldn’t commit to setting a date.

if that is the case, then she's absolutely right to bin him ..... my daughter was jerked around by a chap for 4 years, so she booted him into touch ..... i'm very happy to say that, having found another, they are now engaged after a year of walking out (such a nice, genteel turn of phrase)

Stan - 04 Feb 2015 14:05 - 56336 of 81564

Hamilton's a well known off shore tax dodger... so why would anyone expect any more from low life like him.

SNP to wipe out Labour vote in Scotland, Lord Ashcroft poll reveals

Danny Alexander and Douglas Alexander will both no longer be MPs after General Election, according to bombshell poll by former Tory donor Lord Ashcroft

By Ben Riley-Smith, Political Correspondent

8:18AM GMT 04 Feb 2015

Some of Labour and the Liberal Democrats' most senior Scottish MPs will be dumped from office by the SNP according to a bombshell new poll revealing the full extent of Ed Miliband's woes north of the border.

Danny Alexander, the Liberal Democrat Chief Secretary to the Treasury, and Douglas Alexander, Labour’s election campaign chief and shadow foreign secretary, will both no longer be MPs come May 8 according to the polls.

The SNP will take 15 of 16 crucial marginal seats in Scotland, constituency polling by former Tory donor Lord Ashcroft has found, providing a hammer blow to Mr Miliband’s hopes of entering Number 10.

Alex Salmond, the former SNP leader running in Gordon, is on course to comfortably win the seat while senior Scottish Labour figures including Margaret Curran, the shadow Scottish secretary, and Anas Sarwar, former deputy leader, are expected to go.

The long-awaited polling of more than 16,000 Scottish voters reveals that in Labour-held constituencies the overall swing to the SNP is a staggering 25.4 per cent.

If replicated on May 7, Labour would lose 35 of its 41 MPs and all but rob Mr Miliband of any chance of winning an overall majority.

Such dire predictions for Labour’s support base in Scotland from the most detailed polling to be held in the country since the independence referendum in September is likely to send shock waves through the party, coming just three months before election.

She probably would have been selected for next weeks game.

On reflection, sometimes I think she is still thinking about it.
