I've just been very brave and downloaded Norton Internet Security 2005. Well I had little choice as my subscription to the 2003 version was 24 hours before expiry! However, downloading the new version has somehow overwritten the ad blocking option I had on before. I can't even see how to block adverts and AM suddenly looks multicoloured and adverts keep flashing at me! Please could some kind soul tell me which thingies to press to get all those horrid things to go away?
I'll be the one clutching a large glass of Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte in the comfy chair by the fire....

Evening all
Cilla - when you load up internet security you should have a screen with system status and then settings. In the setting bit the second option is ad blocking. If this says off then click on it and itll bring up an option to switch on. If this doesnt work, when you are in the moneyam page you should have a web assitant tab top right. if you click on this it has an option of block ads on this site - click on this to activate
hope this helps - spacey will probably give a far more technical response

Priscilla - did the same thing on November 29th and nothing has been the same since! Click on Norton Security symbol, then Norton Anti Spam, then turn on Ad blocking.............. however, mine is now turned off as it kept blocking all pop ups. It has been a nightmare. Wish I had taken someone's advice and just re-set my computer time and delayed the subscription expiry.
I would suggest you savour your drink and wait for opto to turn up, he will know what to do :-) However, I would love to keep you company with a glass of the Lafitte - everything will look rosier ...

Oh, thank you, Fundie!!! I didn't see the connection to Anti Spam....but your guidance worked. All that brightly-coloured noise just disappeared. Big smiles here. Can I get you a glass of something your heart desires?
Sorry to hear of your probs, jj, but I'm one of those people who doesn't like pop-ups of any description.

Priscilla: Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte, indeed, you have my undivided attention.
Another way out of the pop-up problems is to avoid using Internet Explorer. Use either Firefox or the Opera browser. Both will block pop-ups (if so instructed) and are much more secure than Microlimp IE.

Well done Priscilla!
Evening Fundie and MM. Might try opera, have been thinking about it for some time but was concerned if it would be compatible with everything else.
Blocking pop ups didn't just stop ads but I couldn't access Money AM Investors Room, tabs etc.

Mighty Micro, I've seen good reports about these other browsers but I'm not confident enough to change something what ain't broke, if you see what I mean. It took me long enough to discover what a browser was. Just the thought of having more than one is enough to make me nervous.
I think I need the idiot's guide here. For example, what happens to all my existing stuff if I change to one of the alternatives? Does everything appear as before? What happens to Outlook Express 6? Will I lose any files?
You're right. I really don't understand what I'm talking about. Could you give a few basic 'girlie-friendly' answers, please?
Or come round my house and I'll put some bottles of Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte in the fridge, with some Chateau Carbonieux red and white in case you fancy a change after an hour or so.
edit: that's scary! While I was typing, MM was already answering.....spooky!
That's it!! The girls could bid for a few hours of your IT expertise on our own computers at home! Like bidding for a celebrity chef to cook in your own home for your friends. What do you think, jj?

Priscilla, download the Google toolbar which has a pop up stopper on it which allows you to override for particular sites if you wish, then disable your other stoppers and your problems should be no more
