Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

57075 - i would not disagree where there is a predominantly muslim school population .....
however, where muslims are in the distinct minority, it is unreasonable that the school should have no pork products - leave aside that they could technically have a separate kitchen as they do in dubai hotels
jews would have a similar problem, and even mixing milk with meat
i don't hear any great outcry from them .... the pupils just choose otherwise

57083 - ''i would not disagree where there is a predominantly muslim school population ..... That's discriminating against non-muslims attending that school, which is why no special treatment should be given to muslims, they have chosen to come here, we have welcomed them, they should 'fit in', we should not change the way we have lived for centuries by 'fitting in' around them.

not really .... if you went to a predominantly jewish school, i would be surprised if there was pork on the menu .... there's an awful lot of alternatives

The thin edge of the wedge cynic, these schools are banning pork for religous reasons, so it's tough luck for the christian children who would like pork in all it's forms, and as you rightly say ''there's an awful lot of alternatives'' so leave pork on the menu and the muslim children choose the alternatives.

true in a jewish school too ... and no i don't really disagree with you either, though the school may choose of its own free will not to offer pork products in respect to the sensibilities of the majority

This reminds me of my wife complaining that when she had a snack at bar with a Jewish friend of mine, seeing bacon butties on the menu and although she fancied a bacon butty she chose something else as she didn't wish to offend my friend who as she said, "the bugger promptly chose a bacon butty for himself"!
I do not think any food should be proscribed as long as there are alternatives on the menu, or the frequenter of a "food establishment" is made aware of the limited choice.

Sometimes when I was wandering in "me van" there were roads where everybody seemed to be going in the opposite direction to myself.
I used to wonder if they had heard something I hadn't.
(Like the pub at the end of the road had run out of beer.)

Try my four daughters and my wife.
They know all my faults and yet still looking for a good one.
No wonder I liked going fishing, even though I rarely caught any!
Anybody want to buy hardly used fishing tackle?
