A new non-java Stockwatch is ready to try out - Technical Beta Test

IanT(MoneyAM) - 29 Jan 2014 07:42

As I'm sure you are aware, we and many of you have had a long and tiresome battle with Java when trying to use our streaming services. We have therefore been working on a solution to remove this problem.

We are pleased to announce that we have a new stockwatch available for use which no longer uses Java. We are currently making this available as a technical beta version, which means we are interested in your feedback regarding performance, bugs and browser/operating system/device compatibility issues (note: design and styling will be addressed in later beta releases).

For the purpose of allowing the old and new stockwatch versions to run concurrently, the technical functionality of the new stockwatch mimics the old one for now (not style, fonts or look). Editing and managing watchlists uses the same process as the current java stockwatch but is now at the top of the page. This will allow you to switch between the versions should you have any problems. All technical features of the current stockwatch are available in the new version except for the ability to drag resize columns. In the near future and as we migrate away from the java version of stockwatch, we will add new usability features as well as design it up to make the whole stockwatch experience smoother than it has ever been.

As this new version does not require java, you should expect it to work on your android devices and ipad/iphones. For now the display has not been optimised for smaller screens, but this will come in future development.

NOTE: Due to javascript performance in Internet Explorer 8, this new stockwatch can cause high CPU load. We recommend you use a current version of a modern browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for best results.

The new version can be found on the following link:

http://www.moneyam.com/stockwatch/beta.php

NOTE: Non java versions of streaming trades, streaming news and level 2 will be released over the coming weeks.

Please do not worry about design/style at the moment as this version has not been styled it is purely a technical beta test environment it will be styled before it is released. We have put this here purely for feedback on its technical functionality i.e does it work in your browser and on your PC/Laptop/Tablet/Mobile

Please post your technical feedback in this discussion thread

Thank you for your feedback and we hope you enjoy it

Ian,

Is it possible to include Dixon Carphone (DC.L) in the Watch list?

Grateful it is can be.

midknight - 11 Aug 2014 10:44 - 573 of 734

Fred, I have that on my watchlist. Like TW. it takes a dot DC.

Midknight,

Thanks.

I am just a little slow.

Sandbanks - 11 Aug 2014 14:14 - 575 of 734

anyone had any problem using opera and the new Beta version. When i look at my 'isa' stockwatch it only shows 5 stocks yet when i look at manage watchlist it shows all of my stocks. When i change watchlist to a different one it shows more than 5. is there something in fields it is not picking up?

robertalexander - 20 Aug 2014 10:24 - 577 of 734

Has this been previously answered or are the techs on holiday?

fortune25 - 27 Aug 2014 08:55 - 578 of 734

I use windows 8. The non Java stock watch better format and more stable but after switching to level 2 it goes back to stock watch Java version. STOCK WATCH SEEMS TO BE THE ONLY ADVANTAGE OF THIS SYSTEM.

Hi,

Ian and Mike are on annual leave so I'm sorry if our coverage of the boards is not good.

robertalexander: As you've mentioned Opera specifically, does this same watchlist work in another browser? I'm not aware of any Opera specific bugs.

fortune25: So far we've converted the Trades page and Stockwatch to the new format but not Level2. It's been a busy year so this has unfortunately not progressed as far as we would have wanted.

Regards
George

HARRYCAT - 01 Sep 2014 08:16 - 580 of 580

are Ian and Mike on annual leave together?

HARRYCAT - 01 Sep 2014 11:45 - 582 of 734

I didn't post that, so I assume you are reluctant to ask the question yourself???

My post was on the wrong thread and has been moved to the 'Bugs' thread.

Ian, when will we have the non-java on Level 2?

IanT(MoneyAM) - 02 Sep 2014 14:15 - 584 of 734

weslon,

It is being worked on as we speak, but it is rather more complicated than the stockwatch and trades hence the delay. we will get there, and we will make sure it is fully tested before any release,

Ian

Thank you, Ian. I look forward to being able to use L2 on my iPad etc.

Sandbanks - 03 Sep 2014 09:50 - 586 of 734

takes forever to load!

alanino - 03 Sep 2014 23:42 - 587 of 734

Doesn't always work - very frustrating

erictho - 04 Sep 2014 10:23 - 588 of 734

Thank you for taking the trouble to produce a NON Java version. I've lost count of the amount of times I could NOT look at Stockwatch because of an issue with Java. Well done.

Sequestor - 04 Sep 2014 12:51 - 589 of 734

Is it safe to upDate Java now, it keeps prompting me, I need it for L2?

robertalexander - 04 Sep 2014 15:04 - 590 of 734

re Opera query.

All the watchlists fail to list fully on Opera[all the columns are there just not all of the stocks]
I usually use google chrome and all ok there. [was hoping to switch to Opera as slightly quicker-well on my computer at east]

regards

Alex
