How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?
Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Up till 2.45am this morning (I know - tautology!) glued to the tennis (Pierce v Mauresmo). What a fantastic opportunity to trade with virtually every point creating large movements in the prices. Though I'm not up to to the standard of skill of you guys out there (I just know I'm not) I managed to green up quite nicely on relatively modest stakes (still feeling my way).
I know of no other market with such wild fluctuations in such short time spans. Even opportunities to break serve meant a big change.
I'll be there again, I think!

welcome and well done - sounds like you finished your trading just before i was getting up for the cricket!!!
Yes the tennis can create huge swings and almost always has very good liquidity - only bit of advice would be to steer clear of backing favs

Thanks for that Fundamentalist - most of my bets were backing Mauresmo who was during most of the match the outsider. Then laying to cover when her odds shortened following threats to Pierce's position. So it looks as if my gut instincts about how to go about it were on the right lines!

the new ball has changed that outlook significantly - 1 more wicket and were into a very weak tail - just a shame the cheating 3rd umpire didnt give Butt run out.
If you look at all 3 innings so far, the side batting has started very well but not made as big a score as they could have done.
Were still only on day 4 and the range of prices on all 3 results has been huge - a great match for trading against the obvious:
Pakistan 2.54-21.0
England 1.35 -16.0
Draw 1.73 - 6.8

been laying the draw for all i can this am and its just paid off big time - have just greened it off at the cost of a few quid at 110
Look at the range of prices on each result, this is pretty common in cricket, always think twice before backing the favourite/short price too early in a cricket match - the contrarian approach is far more profitable
Tempted to lay England at start of their innings as cant see the price shortening much and Trecothicks early wicket will send the price soaring - however going to try and sit on my hands as have a nice green book (both on betfair and the spread market)

Edward
good short term trade i would think - nothing to gain tonight and could be moving around in the morning if dewy again (ball will still be new) - another wicket or 2 before 50 on the board and panic will set into the prices
did you see my note re Trabolgan?

Hi Guys
Got the cricket scores and odds running in the background. No trades yet but kicking myself for not getting in on Eng when drifted out to 1.5s (easy to say in hindsight).
Sitting on an Eng profit with no liabilities at present so shouldn't really complain.
Got it by taking out a bot the other day which was constantly flashing up every 30secs. As soon as I got out another one at 3 times the size came along so I must have annoyed him!

Just caught a quick glance of the photo - the one that won - its body was well behind the other but somehow its nose was just in front - long neck and a big head a benefit?

Commentators were going nutty over here. Didn't see the photo myself, my four year old son was showing me his picture of a snowman!

Some decent volume on the Sty Leger greyhound meet at Wimbledon tonight - live on sky (403), 9.45 is the big race

I thought the horse racing photo early was dodgy but they just showed the print of the 8.35 dogs at Winbledon and it clearly showed 1 fractionally in front of 4 yet 4 was called the winner
