How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

been laying the draw for all i can this am and its just paid off big time - have just greened it off at the cost of a few quid at 110

Look at the range of prices on each result, this is pretty common in cricket, always think twice before backing the favourite/short price too early in a cricket match - the contrarian approach is far more profitable

Tempted to lay England at start of their innings as cant see the price shortening much and Trecothicks early wicket will send the price soaring - however going to try and sit on my hands as have a nice green book (both on betfair and the spread market)

Trescos gone early (note to self not to tempt fate!) but price still very short

Hi Steve,

Just layed England at 1.27

Edward

good short term trade i would think - nothing to gain tonight and could be moving around in the morning if dewy again (ball will still be new) - another wicket or 2 before 50 on the board and panic will set into the prices

did you see my note re Trabolgan?

compoundup - 15 Nov 2005 11:37 - 5759 of 10502

Trabolgan for the Hennesy noted, thanks.

Looking to trade out of England lay around the end of the session.

Hi Guys

Got the cricket scores and odds running in the background. No trades yet but kicking myself for not getting in on Eng when drifted out to 1.5s (easy to say in hindsight).

Sitting on an Eng profit with no liabilities at present so shouldn't really complain.
Got it by taking out a bot the other day which was constantly flashing up every 30secs. As soon as I got out another one at 3 times the size came along so I must have annoyed him!

18k on 1.01 turned over in a photo in 15.20 - looked a tad suspect to me

WOODIE - 15 Nov 2005 15:34 - 5762 of 10502

the fav was also backed after the race had finished at 10 to 26 on small stakes

Fundamentalist - 15 Nov 2005 15:38 - 5763 of 10502

Just caught a quick glance of the photo - the one that won - its body was well behind the other but somehow its nose was just in front - long neck and a big head a benefit?

Scripophilist - 15 Nov 2005 15:39 - 5764 of 10502

Commentators were going nutty over here. Didn't see the photo myself, my four year old son was showing me his picture of a snowman!

Fundamentalist - 15 Nov 2005 20:16 - 5765 of 10502

Some decent volume on the Sty Leger greyhound meet at Wimbledon tonight - live on sky (403), 9.45 is the big race

Fundamentalist - 15 Nov 2005 20:43 - 5766 of 10502

I thought the horse racing photo early was dodgy but they just showed the print of the 8.35 dogs at Winbledon and it clearly showed 1 fractionally in front of 4 yet 4 was called the winner

sealed - 15 Nov 2005 21:30 - 5767 of 10502

The days other racing faux pas was in the 2:10 @ Southwell. Sister Eugenie was backed in running right down to 1.01. Unfortunately the commentator misidentified the real winner Spitfire bob as Sister Eugenie. Oops!

Fundamentalist - 15 Nov 2005 21:37 - 5768 of 10502

Didnt see that one sealed - it happened a few months back as well. Anyone backing on a commentator rather than knowing the colours or having them in front of them gets all they deserve imo

Great one on the dogs - big odds on shot just got turned over by one that had traded at 140!!!

WOODIE - 16 Nov 2005 05:48 - 5769 of 10502

morning all fundy did you lay england this morning?

Fundamentalist - 16 Nov 2005 05:49 - 5770 of 10502

England making a grade A mess of things this morning - now 5 down and I make Pakistan favs (though Eng still 1.8)

Edward - the value was in letting it run!!!

Fundamentalist - 16 Nov 2005 06:04 - 5771 of 10502

All gone pear shaped for England - making money but not enjoying it!!!

WOODIE - 16 Nov 2005 06:05 - 5772 of 10502

poor display should have been easy

Fundamentalist - 16 Nov 2005 06:12 - 5773 of 10502

Woodie

i never thought it would be easy but there has been some awful shots played:

1.08 to 3.5 in very little time

WOODIE - 16 Nov 2005 06:24 - 5774 of 10502

as you said yesterday the first hour was the key for the match
