Israeli Gaza conflict?????? (GAZA)

Fred1new - 06 Jan 2009 19:21

Will this increase or decrease the likelihood of terrorist actions in America, Europe and the rest of the world?

If you were a member of a family murdered in this conflict, would you be seeking revenge?

Should Tzipi Livni and Ehud Olmert, be tried for war crimes if or when this conflict comes to an end?

What will the price of oil be in 4 weeks time?

O will they never learn!

Congratulations to Israel once again.

An Israeli military court has ordered Hamas MP Aziz Dweik, speaker of the Palestinian parliament, to be held without trial for six months.

His lawyer told Reuters news agency that the detention order says his client is "liable to be involved in hostile actions against Israel".

Mr Dweik was detained on Thursday near the West Bank city of Ramallah.

Both the Palestinian Authority and Hamas, which Israel has designated a terrorist group, condemned the arrest.

Hamas said Israel wanted to undermine its attempts at reconciliation with the Fatah movement of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
'No specific reasons'

Mr Dweik, an influential figure in Palestinian political circles, was the first of five Hamas MPs to be arrested by the Israelis in the past five days.

On Tuesday evening, his office said a military court in Ofer had ordered that he be placed in administrative detention for six months.

"As is almost always the case, it gave no specific reasons why Dweik should be held," his lawyer Fadi Kawasmi told Reuters.

"It said only that he was being detained because he was liable to be involved in hostile actions against Israel," he added.

Mr Dweik was arrested by Israel in 2006, not long after Hamas won the Palestinian Legislative Council elections, and spent almost three years in prison after being convicted of belonging to an illegal organisation.

The Islamist group seized control of Gaza from forces loyal to President Abbas in 2007, since when the PLC has not functioned formally.

On Friday, a day after Mr Dweik's arrest, Israeli soldiers detained Hamas MP Khaled Tafesh at his home in a village east of Bethlehem.

And on Monday, Israeli police arrested another two senior Hamas MPs who had been sheltering for more than 18 months in the compound of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in East Jerusalem.

Former Palestinian Jerusalem Affairs Minister Khaled Abu Arafah and Mohammed Totah took refuge after their Jerusalem residency permits were cancelled.

Then early on Tuesday, Hamas said its MP Abdul Jaber Fuqaha had been taken from his home in Ramallah by Israeli soldiers.

The Palestinian Authority cabinet condemned the arrests on Tuesday and demanded Israel "immediately free all lawmakers".

at least this thread's zealots seem to have given up on alleged "humanitarian ships" with assorted trouble-makers on board.

with regard to syria, i tend to agree with you, though being in a tinderbox region, it has rather more importance than say rhodesia (zimbabwe to you whippersnappers)

Haystack - 29 Feb 2012 11:51 - 5809 of 6906

It is not Israel's business what is on the ships. Gaza is not their territory. There is no reason why Gaza should not import arms as Israel does. It is similar to the Israeli hypocrasy of trying to deny Iran a nuclear weapon when Israel has had one since 1967. Israel continues to want to be treated a special case over everything they do.

TANKER - 29 Feb 2012 12:49 - 5810 of 6906

hay . why do you think the rest of the WORLD is againts IRAN having NUCLEAR

Haystack - 29 Feb 2012 12:58 - 5811 of 6906

The rest of the world is not against Iran having a nuclear weapon. Supporters of Israel are against it. Plenty don't see a problem with it. Iran is demonised because it suits Israel and their supporters. They don't want there to be a balance of power in the region. Why isn't there huge pressure on Israel to scrap their nuclear weapons? Why do they need one?

There is one thing wrong the title of the Youtube video. It is called

"Let's blame the Jews"

The real title should "Let's blame the Israelis". Jews have nothing to do with the ME problems. It is the Israeli government and their supporters who just want all the land west of the Jordan when they should no land at all; not even what is temporarily called Israel.

Israel raids Ramallah TV stations

ahoj - 01 Mar 2012 14:08 - 5819 of 6906

Well said Haystack.

The problems are all related to the governments and gaining votes etc. They should make it clear who does what.

It should not be linked to Jews.

Fahel,

I have read the posting and see it as further evidence of Israeli bullying and non-adherence to International law.

Israel raids Ramallah TV stations
Posted on: February 29, 2012 | 86 7

29 February 2012 | Ma’an News
Israeli forces raided two Palestinian television networks early Wednesday in Ramallah and briefly detained four employees, journalists said.
Soldiers confiscated computers used by editors and reporters in Watan TV’s newsroom and general offices as well as administrative and financial files, the network said.
Troops also raided Al-Quds Educational TV in Al-Bireh and confiscated its broadcasting equipment, the head of its TV department Haroun Abu Irreh told Ma’an.

“This attack is nothing but piracy under a policy of systematic attack targeting Palestinian media organizations and journalists,” Watan TV said in a statement.

The network “deplores this aggressive behavior against an efficient and effective media organization,” and said it will restore the stolen equipment and transmitters and to try to resume broadcasts.

An Israeli army spokeswoman said soldiers were accompanying an operation by the country’s communications ministry, which had determined that the networks were broadcasting illegally.

They had been asked to cease their broadcasting “which significantly interrupts other legal broadcasting stations,” an army spokeswoman told Ma’an. “During the operation and in accordance with law, the communications ministry confiscated several transmitters.”

“Illegal broadcasting interfered with aircraft communication, which is very, very dangerous.”

Abu Irreh of Al-Quds Educational TV called the events of Wednesday morning “harassment to media and education stations and a way to shut the mouths of media and reporters.”

Palestinian lawmaker Mustafa Barghouti condemned the raids in a statement.

“This act is not only a violation of human rights and humanitarian law,” he said, “but also a breach of the agreements that forbid the Israeli military forces from entering or carrying out operations” in Area A.

“We will campaign worldwide to repel the Israeli aggression,” he said.

Watan TV identified the four employees who were detained as head of production Abdul Rahman Thaher, correspondent Hamza Salaymeh, graphics expert Ibrahim Milhim and broadcaster Ahmad Zaki.
