THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

ELECTION DEBATE
whatever one's own political leanings, i post below the final analysis from the Guardian, which is hardly a paper that is known for being pro-Tory .....

The instant Guardian/ICM poll found that David Cameron had narrowly “won” the contest, with 54% saying that the PM came out on top once the don’t knows were excluded, compared with just 46% who felt that Miliband had the edge.

The sample of viewers, who were weighted to bring them in line with the broader population, were asked to put aside their party preference and concentrate only on what they heard during the programme. 46% felt that Cameron had the best arguments, as against 44% who said the same of Miliband.

Cameron was also judged slightly more convincing – by 48% to 43% – and to have the more appealing personality, by 46% to 42%. He chalked up a clearer win on “actually answering the questions asked”, by 44% to 37%.

David Cameron retains his lead as best prime minister in this survey - but by a smaller margin than in many past polls – he is preferred on this count by 48% as against just 40% for Miliband.

election debate total waste of time made me feel like not voting and now might not
never spoke about the real issues immigration killing the services

Fred1new - 27 Mar 2015 08:04 - 58019 of 81564

Manuel,

At the end of the interview by Paxman last night Cameron looked as if he knew he was going to hell in a handcart!

Dodgy Dave's smirking and blustering did him no good at all.

fred - we know where your allegiances lie, and that was why i posted from the Guardian
personally, i though EM was dreadful, looking rather scruffy and trying "awfully hard" to be a bit blokish a la NF

MrT - i'm quite surprised at your reaction to last night's debate
i thought DC took on the immigration question pretty well, while acknowledging the fact of life, that as long we are part of EU, we cannot actually stop migration from Europe
whether or not their claims for benefits can be blocked as outlined, remains to be seen

certainly EM ducked the issue completely and also (of course) ruled out any referendum on our EU membership

I was in London yesterday at the Royal Ear Nose & Throat hospital , it was packed and running two hours late .
At least 75% of people waiting were foreign ,some spoke hardly any English ....
That is the strain on our NHS .

MaxK - 27 Mar 2015 08:16 - 58022 of 81564

The Graun has the answer, Paxo won it by a mile!

cynic - 27 Mar 2015 08:18 - 58023 of 81564

but they weren't necessarily at the hospital "unfairly" though that is an easy conclusion to draw
go to any chinese enclave across the country, and you'll find that many, especially among the older generation also cannot speak english depiste having been in the country for many years
glaswegians can be incomprehensible too :-)

jimmy b - 27 Mar 2015 08:23 - 58024 of 81564

I didn't say they were there unfairly ,also they were not the older generation .
In fact it was a complete mish mash of different ages and nationalities .

I for one will be glad when the election is out of the way.....and then....hooray... we can have nothing.....but... politics on here almost.......(moan and groan)... (:((....

jimmy b - 27 Mar 2015 08:43 - 58026 of 81564

rf check back to when it was started and it was a fun thread ,then it became Question Time ..I didn't post here for several years .

required field - 27 Mar 2015 08:45 - 58027 of 81564

Perhaps someone should start a politics thread....put it all on there...

cynic - 27 Mar 2015 08:46 - 58028 of 81564

amusing note .....
the Daily Mirror political editor was being interviewed just now and accidentally referred to EM as DM ... and of course, that is labour's great problem and arguably the tories gift from heaven

however, i very much fear that we'll end up with a second GE within 6/9 months of the first

MaxK - 27 Mar 2015 08:46 - 58029 of 81564

Go on then!

Fred1new - 27 Mar 2015 09:02 - 58030 of 81564

Perhaps, you could start a thread for those not interested in politics.

Perhaps, calling it the non-politics NOWT thread after GF.

Good luck!

Manuel,

I see what you are referring to in the interviews last night.

You prefer gravy train slick Cameron's packaging to Ed Miliband's content.

Apparently, as would be expected Cameron went down well with the party sheep, but the undecided voters migrated to Ed and Labour.

Popularity of Cameron is based on Right winged press and exposure due to "office".

He is a gonna!

I liked Ed's put down of Paxman at the end of Paxman not being that important, especially whe n Paxman seemed more interested in attacking Ed's personality rather than policies.

Cameron is a plucked chicken, squawking and running away from real debate.

I hope and the other interviews will expose Cameron weaknesses even more.

Of course Cameron will be watching them on the TV.

LOL

jimmy b - 27 Mar 2015 09:13 - 58031 of 81564

Fred like i said check back this was not the politics thread , you took it over when you wanted to save the world and his brother .

jimmy b - 27 Mar 2015 09:21 - 58032 of 81564

Here come another load Fred all heading for the promised land .

Fred1new - 27 Mar 2015 09:23 - 58033 of 81564

The world would be a good start for me.

8-)

Interesting questions on Zero hour contracts and "food banks" and whether Cameron live on the income.

Wavey Dave was squirming.

But the good thing it enables the rich to get richer the poor to get poorer.

jimmy b - 27 Mar 2015 09:27 - 58034 of 81564

Here come another load Fred
