I'm afraid not. password & sky with all case permutations tried - no success.

You might like to try the following:-

Login to your router via Internet Explorer

http://192.168.0.1/

default username=admin
default password=sky

Scroll the lefthand menu down to 'UPnP'
Click on it
In the next window UNtick the box 'Turn UPnP On'

If it is already unticked, sorry, but you probably have some other kind of problem.

Kayak - 14 Jun 2007 15:06 - 5811 of 11003

Now how is he going to do that Doc if he can't log in :-)

DocProc - 14 Jun 2007 15:06 - 5812 of 11003

Must be some other kind of problem...?

:-)

Bolshi - 14 Jun 2007 15:10 - 5813 of 11003

Cracked it!

It was admin & admin

Thanks everyone.

Edit: Now I've forgot what I was trying to do :-))))))

DocProc - 14 Jun 2007 15:14 - 5814 of 11003

So there you go, eh?

Simple speeling pistakes. :-)

Netgear Default Passwords

Optimist - 14 Jun 2007 15:41 - 5815 of 11003

Bolshi

First things to do:-

1 Change password.
2 Make sure remote admin is dissabled.
3 Back up your settings.
4 Update firmware - even on a new router.

Bolshi - 14 Jun 2007 15:52 - 5816 of 11003

O.
Password done.
Is 'remote admin' the same as 'remote management'? If so then done.
Backed up.
Update firmware? All I can see is Firmware Upgrade but I don't think that's it as it wants a location on hard drive.

I won't tell you fun I had finding the mac address on my laptop to set up my accesss list. :-)) Sheez!

Haystack - 14 Jun 2007 16:04 - 5817 of 11003

Optimist

You can't update firmware on Sky's Netgear box. It is preloaded with their own firmware and you will lose the actual ISP logon to Sky and you can't re-enter it as it is hidden and not supplied to users.

Optimist - 14 Jun 2007 16:07 - 5818 of 11003

Bolshi

To upgrade the firmware, you have to download the file from the Netgear website.

For future ref, to find MAC address.

Open a command prompt window (Start Button - Run - cmd)
At C prompt type 'ipconfig /all' followed by enter.
Mac address is the same as physical address.

Edit I've just seen Haystacks post, if that is correct, forget firmware update.

Haystack - 14 Jun 2007 16:08 - 5819 of 11003

To get MAC address

Windows XP
Click on the Start menu, and select Control Panel.
Double click on Network Connections.
Double click on Local Area Connection.
Click on the Support tab and then click on the Details button.
The Hardware Address is labelled Physical Address

OR

Using your mouse, click on the Start Button.
Click on Programs.
Next, click on Accessories, and then Command Prompt.
Once a small black window appears, type in ipconfig /all (with a space between the g and the /).
Locate the number to the right of Physical Address. This is your MAC address.

Bolshi - 14 Jun 2007 16:28 - 5820 of 11003

My brain hurts! :-)))

Ah! So the mac address is different for ethernet, wireless and local area connections?

Many thanks to everyone for their time & trouble. I certainly got my "monies" worth today!

Haystack - 14 Jun 2007 16:49 - 5821 of 11003

The MAC address is a number unique across all network devices in the world. It is often printed on the back of the device somewhere and sometimes printed on laptops on a label.

Optimist - 14 Jun 2007 17:12 - 5822 of 11003

A network device refers to the network device within the computer. Hence a laptop will normally have at least 2 devices (ethernet, wireless and possibly others such as a 1394 conection) and a unique MAC address for each.

greekman - 14 Jun 2007 17:12 - 5823 of 11003

Haystack,

You appear to be the main poster on here solving problems.
Do you only offer advice on computer problems, as I need help for the following.

I am in debt, my wife left me (not a problem on it's own) but now she wants to come back, my mistress no longer loves me, I lack self confidence and oh yes, before she left me my missus threw my computer through the bedroom window and for some reason it no longer works.
Any suggestions.

I posted the above just to show that no matter what IT problems are out there, things could be worse.

Greekman
Yeh! But I'm the main man on here for presenting problems!!

:-)

Haystack - 14 Jun 2007 19:46 - 5826 of 11003

greekman

Actually 'Kayak' is the main source of information here for problem solving. I just add a few comments now and then.

As regards you personal problems, I would recommend going gay. This advice is not based on personal experience, but you seem to have tried everything else.

MightyMicro - 14 Jun 2007 23:24 - 5827 of 11003

Bolshi: Sorry, just got back to this thread and and would have suggested admin and admin which are the factory defaults on Netgear routers. Lot of use that is to you now!

greekman: Enter a monastery. You can maintain your current sexual orientation (not that it'll be any use to you), you will not need money or possessions, and, if you opt for the Trappists, you can have blissful silence. Make a nice change after two women giving you grief.

greekman - 15 Jun 2007 07:55 - 5828 of 11003

Haystack, MightyMicro,

Thanks for that if I decide on Haystacks advice I will get back to you. If it's MM's advice I will have taken the vow of silence so I won't. MM's advice is looking the best bet,They Brew Beer!

Hope it at least cheered people up at the end of a grotty week. And they call this summer.
