Actually 'Kayak' is the main source of information here for problem solving. I just add a few comments now and then.

As regards you personal problems, I would recommend going gay. This advice is not based on personal experience, but you seem to have tried everything else.

Bolshi: Sorry, just got back to this thread and and would have suggested admin and admin which are the factory defaults on Netgear routers. Lot of use that is to you now!

I have a bucket at the back of the house, which was empty Tuesday. It has 10" of rain-water in it this morning.

The locals around here are forecasting Locusts next week and a plaugue of boils in early July.

This is a long shot but it's confusing the hell out of me.

Got one of those digital frames - a Kodak wireless one which doesn't seem to want to play. I've set it up to recognise my wireless network - which it does - the router at least - but then it doesn't seem to want to recognise the PC on which the photos are based. I've also set the PC up with a wireless home network - which I assumed would get around that - but it doesn't seem to find that when scanning. Both are WEP secure and I've entered the router WEP code which it has accepted. The PC home network doesn't give me the option because it doesn't appear on the scan.

I appreciate that this is a bit product specific but as I said - really confusing me because logic suggests that I've done all the necessary and it doesn't seem to do what it says on the tin. I haven't rung Kodak support yet but will if noone has any ideas - I just hate ringing help lines - takes ages to get through and then you usually get some numptie at the other end.

Any help appreciated.

mg, the kodak thing may need sharing to be enabled in order to see the photos. Have a look in the manual and see if its says anything about sharing or security.

You may just need to make the photo folder sharable.

That's the other illogical thing. The manual tells me to download Windows Media 11 and share it - which I have - and the icon is there to say it is seeing it - but no joy.

Think I've solved it - had been fiddling about with my network access and had not indicated that access the internet through a residential gateway - now changed that and the bloody thing is accessing the photos.

I need to copy my Win 2000 Outlook Diary and Address Book to my home XP Pro laptop.

Can some kind soul tell me where I'd find the data on each of the machines please?

And, since I remember that most normal back-up software cannot copy the file - and hence the need to use some special program within Outlook - how is the best way to copy this data?

The data is usualy in a *.pst file hidden deep withinthe users Local settings, although that can be changed.

Easiest way to transfer, is File/Import an Export... then select Export to a file, then select Personal Folder File (.pst).

BIOS Problems:

I had a system crash last night and it seems to have altered my Bios settings.
The PC opened with the motherboard splash screen (ASUS) and then just hung there after a message "No drive attached to Fastrack controller. The Bios is not installed"

After fiddling around all morning (I've got the motherboard screen disabled and I've made 1st boot device the 1st Hard drive) I now get a start up as follows:

Everything looks normal until I get the message "Fastrack 378 bios version 1.00.0.37 2003 Promise Technology.

Scanning IDE Drives .........

No drive attached to Fastrack controller. The Bios is not installed.

The bugger then goes on to start up OK and everything seems to work. It's just this darned message about the fastrack controller and bios not being installed.
Any ideas please?

I am having problems with getting certain websites sites and then suddenly this popped up. The actual instructions I understand, however as I do not actually understand anything to do with the computer jargon, I don't know if I have been specially selected by some hackers etc. They want me to ....If there is a tick in the box beside 'Use a proxy server for your LAN', you should remove it.

Open Internet Explorer
Click on the 'Tools' menu at the top of the screen and select 'Internet Options'

If there is a tick in the box beside 'Use a proxy server for your LAN', you should remove it:
Next click on OK to close this screen, and on OK again to close the next one. That's it! You're ready to start making the most of our improved service!

Up date, finally found a phone number for the internet provider and it seems that they are having problems with my area and it's more serious than first thought. The engineers are working on it, lol.

For some strange reason some websites I can still access, such as MoneyAm.

It is almost as though you are losing the Bios settings everytime you shutdown and it is attempting to recognise everything from scratch as plug and play. Have you considered changing the Bios backup battery on the motherboard or at least testing the voltage of it with a meter?
