required field - 14 Jul 2010 13:55

It is now time to switch to a new Money AM football blog as the world cup is now over and we all look to the future.....World cup 2010 is over, Bravo Espana, and Forlan, once again and bring on the new season !.....I never expected the last thread to be such a success...thanks all.... so this new one might go on for years without the need to edit the title...we shall see...

No scottish clubs left in europe......I blame the training.....that's probably where the problem is because not so long ago they were better than english players....Liverpool and Leeds had a superb generation of players........I can't think of any outstanding ones at all, now...

Charlie Adam hasn,t done to badly for himself, though early days at LFC.

I fear that in britain, we confuse training and the way to play football.

Blackburn 0 Everton 1 Arteta hired to Rovers to coach penalty taking, LOL !!!! God knows how Everton avoided defeat in that one. Does this look like the face of concern :O))))))))), I don't think so!!!!

".....not too sure about the Gunners chances at old trafford..."

Are you sure now then?

Incredible scoreline and the goals I saw scored were gems by ManU....no team in the world could have stopped some of them and that includes Barca......the super cup winners will come unstuck one of these days when they come up a team with perhaps 3 forwards that will force their defenders into very quick misplaced passes......it will happen sooner or later.....ManCity look great as well.....interesting start to the season....and for once I won a bit with ManU....

Despite saving a penalty shot, I do think their new goalie, De Vea, is fairly vulnerable.

The penalty shot from Van Persie was

1. Poorly hit.
2. Predictably placed.

On TV the commentator explained how Van Persie's penalty shots are usually either aimed at (as we look at them) the bottom LHS or the top RHS.

I presume, having discussed the topic of 'Arsenal penalty taking' beforehand with the coach, then the Man U goalie needed to choose just one or the other to have a 50/50 chance on stopping a typical Van Persie's penalty shot.

To say these Premier League (and England International) Forwards are paid as much as they are and coached as much as they are too, then surely penalty kicking skills should be practiced so much that they are almost a mere formality for the taker and imposssible to stop by any goalie. That's not what we armchair experts get to see though.

If Van Persie had hit his penalty as hard as the goal he actually scored would have burst the net. Not rocket science, no excuse, 100K + per week???

I used to like Frannie Lee's...of Derby County (I think).... penalties all those years ago and to me Alan Shearer was a fantastic taker....as well.....not many british players that is what's wrong with Arsenal.....you have to pick some up from the lower divisions and have an essential uk backbone in a side performing in the premiership......

ExecLine - 29 Aug 2011 21:57 - 594 of 6918

Didn't Francis Lee play for Manchester City (all those years ago)?

'...And when Manchester United scored their eighth goal, what did you do then, sir?'

daves dazzlers - 31 Aug 2011 18:57 - 600 of 6918

Game on.

England might get an away win against Bulgaria......I hope so....

Dil - 04 Sep 2011 21:46 - 602 of 6918

Wales won ... wonders will never cease !

Pity we lost Bellamy and Vaughan.

"4th in the world yer having a laff" sung by the Welsh summed up the England performance perfectly but the football paled into insignificance.

RIP Mikey Dye and condolences to his family. He was one of the old Ely boys we used to have a joke with in the Ninian before home games back in the 80's. No place in football for things like this , those guilty should be made an example of.
