THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

I like the Polish i spent a lot of time in Warsaw in the 1990's . On Saturday i was talking to 3 Czech's and a Romanian who were working here all nice polite young people.

However we are now overrun by them ,we can't take 300 000 of them per year.

And if this version of the European Union works tell me how many Brits you know who are living out in these former communist countries ?

I don't expect an answer because you don't know any ..

TANKER - 13 Apr 2015 15:15 - 58537 of 81564

he thinks its a shit hole

Fred1new - 13 Apr 2015 15:33 - 58538 of 81564

My daughter until recently and another daughter's friend and family.

Was a time when some were going to Poland to have dental work done, because it was cheaper and they thought as good as obtainable in the UK.

cynic - 13 Apr 2015 15:55 - 58539 of 81564

as both sets of grandparents arrived in this country at the turn of 20th century and my parents were born in england and so was i ......

and as i've never been to poland at any point in my life, i have no idea what it is like and nor is it remotely relevant

Haystack - 13 Apr 2015 17:27 - 58540 of 81564

I would imagine that Tanker is not ethnically UK either as most of us aren't if you go back far enough.

Fred1new - 13 Apr 2015 17:41 - 58541 of 81564

Are you questioning my parentage?

Out this afternoon

http://news.sky.com/story/1464139/conservatives-surge-ahead-in-new-election-poll

The Conservatives have surged ahead in a new election poll that puts the party on 39%, six points ahead of Labour on 33%.

The ICM poll, published by The Guardian, has the Liberal Democrats unchanged on 8%, UKIP down two points on 7% and the Greens up three points on 7%.

The Conservatives were up 3% in the poll and Labour down 2%.

Fred1new - 13 Apr 2015 18:17 - 58543 of 81564

Haze!

Put a bet on it!

Haystack - 13 Apr 2015 18:39 - 58544 of 81564

It is interesting looking ahead to another election at some point. Labour are in serious trouble regarding ever getting an overall majority. If the SNP vote holds up long term, it is going to become very difficult for Labour to get elected by themselves. At present, the Conservatives are unlikely to get an overall majority and the odds are about 5 to 1 against. That rises to 25 to 1 against for Labour.

Tanker

On the subject of Polish people....

From what you have to say about 'them', well, for a start, I'm pretty sure you are getting 'them' mixed up with Albanians and Romanians. These latter are fairly 'scum baggish', I'll give you that.

The Poles? DEFINITELY NOT.

The Polish people in the majority are a people of good ethics, they are mostly reasonably well educated and very hard working too. Their sense of the family value is also very high. They were also our friends and allies in World War 2.

Indeed, I sincerely welcome the Poles to England. not so the Albanians and Romanians and it is these guys who you will find at the car washes. At least, in the car washes they are working their balls off and have come over to get a stake together to take home to better their lot for their families back home. You actually have to admire them for doing it too.

But the apparently uncontrollable levels of immigration from the EU does MASSIVELY DISTURB ME. I am greatly against it and find it ridiculous. Perhaps we can control it better, but only indirectly and by say, toughening up with the Benefits system?

I like to see you reminding us about the cost of Health care for us Brits in European countries. The fact we do this for free for all visitors but have to pay when we want it ourselves in their countiries, is also ridiculous! We are idiots and our government should stop it over here. All three major parties are to blame here for their idiotic weakness on it.

It is simlar with dog poo and litter. The government and our Councils do nothing. There is a complete lack of political will to do anything about these two problems . Similarly with our roads and all the pot holes in them and the litter at the side of our roads. Our politicians want a good kicking for it.

Another or my pet hates is the lack of good street lighting. Damn it! We have half our street lights turned off and are giving away £billions to despotically run countires with our massive levels of Foreign Aid. Stupid or wot?

Your bang on Execline .

Haystack - 13 Apr 2015 20:07 - 58549 of 81564

I am not sure about Romanians, but I know several Albanians. Two in particular are at good universities here.

I don't get these polls....this morning the BBC had Labour 1% ahead of the Tories .....now the blues are 6% ahead of the reds...???

Haystack - 13 Apr 2015 20:35 - 58551 of 81564

The polls have quite a bit of variation due to general randomness and different methodologies. Some are face to face, some internet and some are telephone. Each has its problems with the sample selection process. The internet is potentially the most dodgy as the poll sample is self selecting to some extent. It is a bit like polls on Sky News. Their sample is based on viewers of the program and those that can be bothered to vote. This means that the ones with the strongest views tend to join in.

The recent polls are complicated by the Easter holidays as the schools only went back today and many people have been away. It is not clear which party in the polls benefits from people on holiday. The results could be skewed as a result.
