Yep, rather like owning a chicken farm that Tesco buys from, and then Tesco say they want to sell 100% more chickens..........knock on effect and all that.

Looks like the Nokia 40% of BSNL might get awarded soon.........very good news for Leadcom if it does.

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/NEWS/India_Business/BSNL_told_to_file_application_for_awarding_GSM_contract/RssArticleShow/articleshow/1689678.cms

27th Feb 07

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Monday asked BSNL to file an application on its proposal seeking clearance to award 40% of its 45 million GSM lines contract.

A bench comprising Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice HR Malhotra directed BSNL to file an application after additional solicitor general Gopal Subramanium suggested a solution to the stand off, saying the court should allow awarding 40% of total contract value....................

On a different note, anyone think the markets are soon to be headed for a fall ? I do, here is a post I put on a different LEAD thread today.

"I too have completed my selling, not of LEAD by the way, but lots of other stocks, and now have just a few core holdings (the LTBH type shares) that I'll hold all the way through the summer.

Its nearing tax year end, the AIM market is soaring, lots of AIM stocks flying upwards...........tells you its time to take profits, as the bears will be in the market soon, and those who sell in May and go away are not far off appearing. The rating on LEAD is undervalued, so not really that worried here should there be any market corrections in the months ahead, there are more interesting and exciting short potentials out there on ratings that are, lets say, toppy, and getting more toppy each day."

cynic - 27 Feb 2007 07:29 - 591 of 955

yes; i certainly agree FTSE is due for a sharp though probably short and temporary retrenchment ....... not quite so clear for Dow which may well prove contrary.

if FTSE does stumble, then defensive stocks (breweries, leisure, banks etc) will be the safest investments, with oils and miners (especially E&P stocks) inevitably the hardest hit.

PapalPower - 27 Feb 2007 08:21 - 592 of 955

On line limits have swung more positive.

BUY 50K at 58.38p

SELL 50K at 57p

Is the seller clear ? or just a pause ?

PapalPower - 27 Feb 2007 08:46 - 593 of 955

cynic, I would reckon the China stocks will be the ones that are hit. We had a junior O&G bubble this time last year, and this year its China stocks. Everyone is looking at adjusted EPS forecasts, and should be looking at real EPS forecasts (and forgetting most of them need more cash, will do secondary placings soon, which will dilute those EPS forecasts to bits). China always has run on debt, and still does to this day. I'll wager most of the present "China Darlings" are significantly lower come June time.

cynic - 27 Feb 2007 08:49 - 594 of 955

wait and see .... certain people have been mocking me about taking my profits at SOLA .... we shall see over the next few days!

steveo - 27 Feb 2007 09:42 - 595 of 955

sola certainly appears overvalued at present even more so after recent run.

cynic - 27 Feb 2007 10:09 - 596 of 955

forti18 thinks i am an ass for taking my profits there ...... we shall see

PapalPower - 27 Feb 2007 10:19 - 597 of 955

cynic, there will be some short term pain on SOLA I think. For one the margins are falling, two they need more working cap, three the expansion is going to cause problems, and also they will go through a period of when Q to Q growth will not be there. Its on a very high rating, and also has a lot of people in profit, who will cash in their chips for tax year end. Then there are those who sell in May and do not hold over the summer. All in all I think you are right to have sold, perhaps June will be a good buy back time......... ?

PapalPower - 28 Feb 2007 00:52 - 598 of 955

Ref to post 590, looks like my timing was for once spot on ;)

PapalPower - 28 Feb 2007 08:43 - 599 of 955

It appears that Altium are going to be given the boot (seems its not a happy split), which explains why they pushed the bid up to 62p recently and then there was a flurry of sells, as they offloaded their clients. It explains the drop from results, and also will present a good buying op, just before someone new is appointed and they bring their clients in.

Its all rumour at the moment, but there it is.

New Delhi

Feb. 27 Aditya Birla Group-promoted IDEA Cellular has awarded a three-year contract to Swedish equipment major Ericsson for expanding its GSM-based cellular network across five circles. Though the two companies were tight lipped about the deal size, industry sources estimated it to be in excess of $300 million.

Expansion

Ericsson will expand IDEA Cellular's network in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh over the next three years. The contract also envisages upgrading IDEA's existing network to make it capable for offering third generation services. Ericsson will provide radio access, microwave transmission and next-generation, mobile softswitch network architecture, till November 2009. Ericsson and IDEA have also signed agreement to deploy environment friendly bio-fuels for powering the company's cellular base stations.

The deal will further enhance Ericsson's position in the competitive Indian telecom gear market.

Finnish major Nokia has also bagged some major contracts from Bharti and Hutch. With operators such as Bharti, BSNL and Reliance planning major expansion, contracts worth $10 billion are up for grabs this year.

Commenting on the agreement with Ericsson, Mr Sanjeev Aga, Managing Director, IDEA Cellular, said, "We are pleased to be working with Ericsson to expand our GSM network. The expansion prepares us well for the switch to a 3G-ready network when the time is right."

IDEA Cellular has licences to operate in 12 telecom circles and has a customer base of more than 12 million. The company is in the process of getting its shares listed on the bourses through an initial public offering.

Mr Mats Granryd, Managing Director, Ericsson India, said, "IDEA's expansion in the five circles will include remote rural areas, which present unique challenges. We have been partners with IDEA since it started operations in India, and we are happy to be taking this partnership to a new level of commitment."

An interesting twist to events, now BSNL taking Motorola to the Supreme Court over a different project, claiming damages over delays by Motorola.

I would guess BSNL are now totally p'd off with Motorola, and now going to hammer them back over the delays they are causing on the 45m line tender.

And also Idea India now saying they will invest 2 billion dollars in expansion in the next 2 years. I get the feeling that India in the coming 5 year period is going to be spending around 30 to 50 billion dollars at least on mobile expansion projects.
