THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

David Dimbleby should be replaced on QT , his just another BBC lefty, last night he tried to put words into the mouth of the UKIP man when all he was doing was agreeing with most of the other pannelist , and that wasn't what Dimbly wanted

VICTIM - 24 Apr 2015 12:09 - 59085 of 81564

Yes I remember Dimbleby in the Farage v Glegg debate . He kept forgetting Farage's name but it was always Nick this Nick that . Since then no respect at all.

Fred1new - 24 Apr 2015 12:42 - 59086 of 81564

Manuel,

When I was about 8-9 year old I read the poem Abou Ben Adhem (May his tribes increased). (Leigh Hunt.)

For some reason, it spite of being dyslexic it stuck in my memory when its simplicity was explained to me by my father.

Strangely, I think, although not always adhering to its principle precept I have been influenced by it.

Probably you are too long in the tooth now, but if you don’t know the poem read it.

You may not realise you it, but change may benefit you.

Also, I was taught that sometimes it is useful to encourage some back onto the best pathway when they seem lost.

Fred1new - 24 Apr 2015 12:51 - 59087 of 81564

Victim,

For many, one has to earn respect.

I find it difficult to put into one sentence Farage, Cameron, Osborne etc. and the word "respect".

The former group seem antipathetic the meaning of the word.

They must be gutted Fred, they speak so highly of you!

cynic - 24 Apr 2015 13:18 - 59089 of 81564

fred - i'm afraid you fall down very badly on the whole precept of the poem - "I pray thee, then, write me as one that loves his fellow men."

I fear the Lib-Dems are going to be slaughtered at the elections......probably nice people with the wrong policies.....better put a yellow sticker with a helpline number in that phonebooth at the top of beachy head next to the samaritans with a direct line to Cameron......or if you are really desperate to the Ed's....(but the latter option might make you want to jump).....

Fred1new - 24 Apr 2015 13:29 - 59091 of 81564

It is amazing how sensitive Wavy Dave has become.

"David Cameron was wrong to assume that Libya's was a country whose institutions could be left to evolve and transform on their own," he said.

"The tragedy is that this could have been anticipated. It should have been avoided.

"And Britain could have played its part in ensuring the international community stood by the people of Libya in practice rather than standing behind the unfounded hopes of potential progress only in principle."

A briefing note released by Labour ahead of the speech sparked a row after it suggested Mr Miliband would say the refugee crisis and tragic scenes in the Mediterranean are in part a direct result of the failure of post-conflict planning for Libya.

I would suggest fair comment.

=-=-=-=-=

Cameron can huff and puff, but his stance at Brussels was fodder for his own party!

Dil - 24 Apr 2015 13:31 - 59092 of 81564

Hardly suprising is it rf when no one imagined themselves voting Lib-dem at the last election to get a Conservative government.

Getting what they deserve now imo for selling out their voters last time round.

Fred1new - 24 Apr 2015 13:34 - 59093 of 81564

Manuel,

You are claiming omniscience again.

Loving someone, does not necessarily include agreeing with their views.

Find a dad to explain the meaning of the poem to you.

Fred1new - 24 Apr 2015 13:34 - 59094 of 81564

Dil,

Part of me agrees with you, but cutting off one's nose to spite someone else's face is not always rewarding.

cynic - 24 Apr 2015 13:36 - 59095 of 81564

the real trouble is, is that none of the main party leaders is seen as having any charisma

they can and all do prattle on about how different their policies are from one another
However, as fred's mate in france has discovered, though one can tinker around the edges and impose (or not) assorted "spite and jealousy" taxes as they have in france, it is exceedingly difficult if not impossible to change things at the core ..... hence the french economy remains a disaster

the only "success" hollande can now claim, is to have boosted immeasurably the standing of FN ..... a salutary lesson to be learnt perhaps

VICTIM - 24 Apr 2015 13:40 - 59096 of 81564

It's like watching a Brian Rix farce on here , enter someone stage left .( God I feel old ).

cynic - 24 Apr 2015 13:42 - 59097 of 81564

Loving someone, does not necessarily include agreeing with their views .......

quite so, but being loudly vocal about the disdain and contempt in which you hold someone, cannot by any stretch of the imagination or even semantics be described as "loving your fellow man"

Fred1new - 24 Apr 2015 14:15 - 59098 of 81564

Have a look at France's economy in 2 years time.

Must admit I thought they would be doing better than they are.

Fred1new - 24 Apr 2015 14:19 - 59099 of 81564

Manuel.

Hence my remark: Post 59089

"Strangely, I think, although not always adhering to its principle precept I have been influenced by it."

Anyone on here ever had a Reversing Camera fitted to their car by the guys who come out to do the job at your home? eg. Autologic

The answer to the question, "When you arrive, how long do you think it will take you to do the job?" was "About 40 minutes."

Hmmm?

It can't be all that difficult, I'm thinking.
Another thing is that these camera sell on eBay for about £30. I see they fit into the Rear Number Plate illumination light housing.

Big Question: Is this job easy enough to do yourself?

(My motor is an AMG Merc Estate with a 'Comand' System. The dealership quote is around £900 + VAT for this job if it isn't supplied as a factory fitted option with the new car. The dealership charge/method of getting one sounds like a complete 'rip off' to me.)

(Reuters) - Prime Minister David Cameron has squandered Britain's global influence by forging an inward-looking approach to international affairs that has left the world's fifth-largest economy isolated, opposition Labour leader Ed Miliband said on Friday.

Less than two weeks before a May 7 election, Miliband dragged Cameron's foreign policy record to the heart of a campaign which has so far seen almost no debate of international affairs beyond references to immigration.

Citing Cameron's absence from Franco-German talks on Ukraine with Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin, the chaos in Libya and the Conservative promise of a vote on European Union membership, Miliband said the prime minister has torpedoed British clout.

"My case is that David Cameron has presided over the biggest loss of influence for our country in a generation," Miliband told an audience in London.

"It is time to reject the small-minded isolationism that I believe has characterised this government, because I believe it is an approach that has shrunk our influenced and weakened Britain."

In what opinion polls indicate is the closest British election in a generation, Miliband and Cameron are the only likely candidates to lead Britain's next government.

Miliband used the biggest foreign policy speech of his campaign to accuse Cameron of putting short-term party politics ahead of the national interest, especially over Europe.

Cameron, he said, promised a referendum on European Union membership by the end of 2017 to appease Eurosceptics in his party and to counter the rise of the UK Independence Party, which has poached Conservative voters.

Is he representing the tories or the Faragists?

£84.99 diy reversing kit, should be easy enough to fit, but not sure about the command system (whatever that is) Give maplin a call, they have plenty of tech/geeks who will probably be able to answer as to suitability.
