I'm with BT but out of contract. I had a BT Voyager 205 router and have just swapped it for an unlocked BT 210 Voyager bought on eBay. It will handle 8Mbps without any problems - but not for me because I am too far from the exchange.

The seller was absolutely excellent. I went for an Ethernet model rather than a USB and also bought some Develo adapters. Here's the link to him:

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Puzbies-Emporium

I see he has a '210' at 14.99 + 6.50 postage or you can bid instead.

PS. A BT Voyager 205 can be got on eBay for about 2.50 so I am keeping my old one as a spare.

docproc - seems it is not the router but the shambles calling itself BT
they have not upgraded me today and have had a useless discussion with the lot in Mumbai , no matter how cheap they are , they are being paid too much!

My computer keeps crashing when I am scrolling the bb on a rival financial site (adv fn) and I don't know if it is my computer or their site.

It's a mac mini and I haven't a clue about computers so I would be really grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks, mabel.

Optimist - 08 Jul 2007 19:04 - 5917 of 11003

I don't have any trouble with that site, so i would assume that it is your computer. However, I know nothing about Mac's so you will have to wait for a mac user to come along.

DocProc - 08 Jul 2007 19:14 - 5918 of 11003

mabel

Seeing as how your machine isn't crashing on this site, might it not be an idea to take it up with their techies? :-)

I'd say, you either need more RAM installing or you've got some kind of software conflict going on.

:-

Here's a good Apple mac mini forum

PS. Although you can't type 'moneyam' on that site, you can type 'advfn' on this one. ;-)

mabel - 08 Jul 2007 22:17 - 5919 of 11003

Many thanks for your response.

Doc, have been using my mac for over 2 years without problems, but will check out the Apple forum.

when i am trying to shut down my computer on XP , i get a popup saying MCCWSAWin is running and needs to close - then another popup saying programme
will not respond , this stops the shutdown until i end the not responding.

searched machine and google and ms website and can find no reference to this programme

anybody any clue?

Haystack - 09 Jul 2007 20:22 - 5921 of 11003

Here is a reference. I am not too sure about the suggested remedies though. Have you tried running the task manager Ctrl-Alt-Del and look at processes.

It might also be worth looking at Windows Key - R and then msconfig. Look at startup routines to see if you can see it there.

maddoctor - 09 Jul 2007 20:28 - 5922 of 11003

task manager does not show it running Haystack

saw this http when i googled but no idea what to do

What do you mean by windows key r

not much of a techy i am afraid

maddoctor - 09 Jul 2007 20:33 - 5923 of 11003

don,t see it in the startup msconfig

Haystack - 09 Jul 2007 21:15 - 5924 of 11003

Windows key and R at the same time or Windows key then click on the section at the bottom of the list.

maddoctor - 09 Jul 2007 22:01 - 5925 of 11003

not there either

alfalfa - 09 Jul 2007 22:23 - 5926 of 11003

Does it still occur if you start the computer in Safe mode and then shut down ?

The Other Kevin - 10 Jul 2007 08:38 - 5927 of 11003

Put MCCWAS into Google and you will come up with a few references. It seems to be something to do with the wretched BT Desktop Help updates.

EDIT Sorry, the link is MCCWSA

maddoctor - 10 Jul 2007 09:07 - 5928 of 11003

kevin , thanks . i had googled mccwsawin and nothing came up but on entering mccwsa i saw the reference to bthelpnotifier.exe.

removed it on startup and shutdown ok now , thanks. bthelp did not load properly from the hub disk and had to go to website for update - there does seem to be something wrong with it

any idea what this exe command does?

Haystack - 10 Jul 2007 09:22 - 5929 of 11003

Found this

"bthelpnotifier.exe is a process installed alongside BT Broadband and provides additional configuration options for this product. This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems"

and

"BTHelpNotifier.exe System tray icon for the Virtual Assistant from BT Broadband, used to communicate internet problems via the network rather than telephone."

Haystack - 10 Jul 2007 09:26 - 5930 of 11003

Also try this. There is some good info.

maddoctor - 10 Jul 2007 09:26 - 5931 of 11003

well the virtual assistant is a waste of time anyway!

maddoctor - 10 Jul 2007 09:49 - 5932 of 11003

having removed this exe command will i now be able or not to communicate with the help online question answer service?.
