now perhaps there could be a bit of fun!

HARRYCAT - 04 Aug 2008 08:32 - 594 of 896

"Media reports said that China's Sinopec had launched a bid to buy Imperial Energy last week."
Can't think the Russians would be too keen to approve a chinese takeover, but we shall see.

cynic - 04 Aug 2008 09:29 - 595 of 896

a bit more grist for the mill .......

Daniel Stewart repeated its 'buy' advice and 1,500 pence price target.

Daniel Stewart said the counter bid is rumoured to be from Sinopec, a Chinese state oil company, and while no price has yet been announced, the broker suspects the approach would have to be closer to the 1,500 pence-per-share level.

The broker thinks the immediate cause of this bid should be to move the share price to at least the 1,290 pence bid price.

today's dampener, i guess, is due to below, though in truth it says no more than might be expected at this stage of posturing ......

Sinopec in due diligence on Imperial Energy-report
05 Aug 2008 - 05:18
China's state-run energy giant, Sinopec Group, is in the process of conducting due diligence on Russia-focused oil producer Imperial Energy Corp Plc , but has not yet made an official offer, Chinese media reported on Tuesday.

Sinopec officials were not available for comment.

"We are upbeat about the prospects of blocks owned by the company. But we have to do our due diligence to decide whether if it's worth that much money," semi-official 21st Century Business Herald newspaper quoted an unnamed Sinopec official as saying.

"It's just an ordinary transaction. We have lots of targets for acquisition in recent years. The aim is to boost our upstream business for long-term growth," the official was quoted as saying, adding there were lots of uncertainties before the deal was finalised.

HARRYCAT - 06 Aug 2008 10:58 - 597 of 896

I wonder if they do actually have an interest in IEC or whether it is just getting a foot on the door to make it awkward for other company's plans. ONGC seem to be the other interested party, but pushing the price further up may see them walk away. Which may, of course, be what Sinopec want. Just my jaded view of chinese manipulation! Am not confident any takeover will happen.

cynic - 06 Aug 2008 11:59 - 598 of 896

very doubtful indeed ..... if IEC have opened their books to Sinopec, they will already have been in serious discussion and Sinopec will have had to remit a serious letter of intent or similar

cynic - 08 Aug 2008 16:28 - 599 of 896

another rubbish performance by IEC on low volume, only 75% of norm ...... even on MAM buys/sells are even and a lot of interest from institutions, mainly going long with derivatives.

i know nymex is weak (welcome for other rewasons), but this should not really affect IEC's sp

all somewhat strange

HARRYCAT - 08 Aug 2008 16:35 - 600 of 896

In addition Shares Mag says there are 3 possible predators, which would liven things up a bit. Yet the sp doesn't even reach the 1290p initial takeover price!
Somewhat strange is the understatement.

cynic - 08 Aug 2008 16:47 - 601 of 896

does Shares Mag know what it's talking about for a change?

HARRYCAT - 08 Aug 2008 22:02 - 602 of 896

Cynic by name, Cynic by nature? ;o)
ONGC, Sinopec & Eurasian Natural Res are all in the frame.

cynic - 13 Aug 2008 07:26 - 603 of 896

well let's hope
the following is accurate and not some smart russian operator at work ....

Russian oil producer Imperial Energy Corp Plc , which is in the sights of China's Sinopec Group and India's ONGC , could be sold within days, a source familiar with the situation said on Wednesday.

'This is very, very live,' the source said, on condition of anonymity. 'There could be news within the next couple of days or next week.'

Deutsche Bank is also being badly squeezed for cash etc .... if you look back, you will see that they have been unloading stock in many companies for the last weeks and months .... further, it is more than likely that DB's holding was placed with another institution

cynic - 21 Aug 2008 07:28 - 606 of 896

goody goody! ......

A government panel has approved India's state-run Oil and Natural Gas Corp's $3 billion bid to buy Russia-focused oil firm Imperial Energy Corp Plc , the Business Standard reported, without citing any sources.

The Indian explorer has submitted an initial bid of $2.96 billion for Imperial Energy that has proven and possible reserves of 920 million barrels of oil equivalent, the newspaper said on Thursday, quoting unidentified investment banking sources.

ONGC Chairman R.S. Sharma declined to comment on the report.

The newspaper also said that ONGC had already spoken to the Russian authorities and had recieved a favourable response.

ONGC currently own 20 percent stake in Russia's Sakhalin I project.

Toya - 21 Aug 2008 07:47 - 607 of 896

Look out for a nice rise today then!

HARRYCAT - 21 Aug 2008 09:05 - 608 of 896

Have been trading in & out of this for the past few weeks as sp tends to drift after the hype has faded. Can't really risk being left out now though as 1290p is the obvious target. A nice little bidding war would spice things up a bit, but I have a feeling the chinese were just throwing their hat in the ring as a gesture rather than anything serious. They admitted they have been looking at lots of possible aquisitions & IEC didn't seem to be high on their list. The Eurasian rumour appears to be just that. Some journalist trying to justify his keep no doubt?

cynic - 21 Aug 2008 09:18 - 609 of 896

i would doubt that 1290 will be the end of the matter and equally doubt, though with less conviction, that the chinese are not seriously contemplating
