Does anyone know how to record radio programmes that I've missed from the web using the BBC's radio player. I suspect it's not easy, but I'd like to keep copies of Humph in ISIHAC.

SC - "streamed" content is designed to be less than easy to record, but there is software that does it, take a look at
Total Recorder. (edit - there used to be a website with mp3 files of all the old ISIHAC programmes, maybe try a search on groups.google.com for sources...)

Can anyone help me.
I gave my grandson an old computer I bought in 1999.
It has 12 gb hard drive.
windows 98.
Their is a lot of rubbish on it now.
He cannot start a game, cannot remove the game .
How can you reload windows 98 from scratch, I would be obliged for any help.

lordkent , with the computer you should have got a product recovery disc or restore disc. Insert this and follow instructions and it will overwrite everything and your computer will be as it left the store. Hope you still have the disc. Having reread your message I think you mean a cd is jammed in the machine. Should be able to open it with a straightened paperclip if you can see the hole.

I reinstalled Win 98 after doing a hard disc reformat as well, surprisingly easy. I have a copy of a magazine (Best of Computer Active Workshops 2002) Could scan it & try to e-mail to you as a jpeg if you want - will need a valid email address though as money am will not permit attachments.
Send me an e-mail through money am if you want - could be a couple of days before I do it though - work pressures.

lordkent, tech help can take a while to arrive (this is an investment/trading BB after all). If you follow Tullets method you should have no problems. By the way a boot disc from any PC running the same version of windows can be used.
A less drastic step MAY be to start the PC in safe mode and then try removing the game. Pressing F8 while the PC boots up should get you into safe mode and rebooting it after will restore it to normal operation. Im not sure this will cure your problem but youve nothing to lose in trying.
good luck
Neil

LK21 - A quick way, if it's a generic pc -
Make sure the win98 directory is copied from the installation CD to drive C:
Hit F8 on boot and select command prompt
Type the following
C:
Deltree windows
CD win98
setup
follow the instructions and a new, pristine, win98 will (hopefully) emerge at the other end - you will, of course, need to make sure that you have all the driver disks available for the video, modem, sound and any other cards in the PC and not automatically supported by 98. These you re-load after 98 is installed

Hi all,
I recently had a problem with my system going incredibly slow. A bit of investigation revealed that just after boot up "system monitor" showed the processor usage to be 100%. Having now removed everything that I didn't recognise from startup in msconfig it's now down to 1%.
For anyone wanting to get rid of the myriad of programs that decide that they are so important that they should run in the background all the time, do the following.
Press Start
Press Run
Type msconfig
Click OK
Select the startup tag
deselect the things you don't recognise.
Click OK
Reboot
The thing you want to keep are things like
Task manager
System tray
And anything else you know that you want like (in my case)
Adaptec directCD
Microsoft office shortcut bar.
Thins I knew I didn't need were things like
shockmachine reminder
Quicktime task
HTH
Mike.

I belong to a tips website. During the past couple of weeks the right hand edge of any of their printer-friendly material is missing from my print-preview and the printout. They assure me that the fault is at my end and is a problem between my browser and printer

Snip, I try to print off Croc's week ahead list & find the same problem sometimes. I have cured it by choosing
File
Page setup
then altering the margins down.
Click OK then do the same but choose print preview and you'll see if it works.
Hope this works - or have you already done this?

Someone else perhaps may help?

It may sound stupid but have you tried changing from portrait to landscape and then view print preview - what you want may come on an odd page. Had same problem with bigcharts print friendly - do not use this , use print from File menu at top.

thanks maddoc I can do both but I want the chart colours with a white background and If I print without print friendly I will get a coloured background. Not ink- efficient! Re landscape yes that works but no good to see quickly in a file. Anyway its meant to be portrait
