You are spouting sense at last.

SNP will represent Scottish views plus many in the UK as a whole.

Personally, think independence is daft and think it better to improve representation in London, as it would be for the UK in Brussels.


But think the Scots, if they "got" independence would also, after a few years seek full integration within the EU including ditching the pound for the Euro.

The Scots will vote SNP for the reasons above and who can blame them. This is not about Independence. They are not totally stupid.

i know you find it hard to believe, but i have always thought for myself

however, i also find it pretty hard to swallow that snp (or any other party) has very much interest outside what will benefit their own aims ..... means justifying ends often coming into play of course

that is to say, you may well find snp staying quiet about trident - it's an argument they won't win anyway - in exchange for some thumping benefits in other quarters

Have mixed feelings.

Always thought of Trident as dubious and a weapon of offence or response to aggression.

Have always thought it too expensive and that more "conventional" defence and weaponry would be more appropriate.

Also, thought the Forces could have different responsibilities with 5 year contracts with military training along side "apprenticeships" for civilian need, more training for "disasters" at home and abroad and providing medical "help" and training for "emergency situations and infrastructure improvements in "developing nations.


I know to some degree they have these responsibilities, but these could be expanded and the returns from doing so may be more rewarding than some of the military incursions of late.

Trident is yesterdays weapon, according to Governments the big threat these days is from small time religious based terrorists, planting bombs and such... so whats the good of having a nuclear weapon against that threat?

NICOLA Sturgeon said that the election of a large bloc of SNP MPs next week would lead to a shift in power from the “corridors of Westminster to the communities of Scotland” as she used a speech to supporters to pledge that the nationalists would transform the way the UK’s politics is conducted.

The First minister said her party would “end the metaphorical wielding of swords” at Westminster and make it “better” for voters in all parts of the UK.

Ms Sturgeon held out an olive branch to Labour by stating that the SNP would vote to reverse NHS privatisation which she said the Tories had introduced south of the border and that her party’s MP’s would back Ed Miliband’s flagship plan for a mansion tax on properties worth more than £2 million if Labour is in government.





However, she said that ending austerity and scraping Trident were absolute priorities for the SNP, which she said would be a “breath of fresh air” at Westminster if it wins a large number of MP next week.


She also stated that the SNP was now the “party of social democracy in Scotland” and that it was now more progressive than Labour at both Scottish and UK levels.

It all comes down to trust.
Right now people seem to trust her and are willing to give her party a chance.

Most people want Scotland to have more powers and influence when we are still part of the UK.

SNP voters looking for a quick second referendum will perhaps be disappointed.

An odd thing is that the Conservatives may end up holding their only seast.

how about bringing back conscription of a kind, aimed particularly at those who dropped out of or made a total mess of school?

.... as you say, they could be taught useful trades within the forces - and perhaps have a bit of respect and discipline knocked into them too

of course, the bleeding heart brigade would be up in arms, so to speak

If Labour get in with the SNP for support it will change politics, but for just one term. The next election will see a huge backlash against that combination and return a strong Conservative majority.

I have never found it easy to beat sense into anybody.

Perhaps, Eton methods might work! I suppose it is down to the fodder given them.

I think the drop-outs, while in the "forces" should be trained to takeover over failing companies and install discipline, while the "boards" of such companies should go to "boot camps" and have their failing pattern of behaviour knocked out of them.

No, to conscription, unless all 18-21 year olds (unless physically debilitated) are drafted into the lower ranks for the first 18 months.

I think "learn to" is a more appropriate word than "taught".

Self discipline is useful when one understands the advantages of it, and self imposes it.

If, as expected, Miliband is PM after May 7th then with the help of SNP and Libs/ds. the political scene will be changed for the better and the tory party will be sidelined and stabbing itself in the back.

The BBC have a what looks like a good polling system on their website...from what I can see : the Tories are ahead in 7 polls and Labour in just 2.....so at the moment it looks like the Tories are just pulling ahead....well that's the trend it seems....
