Inspirit Energy Ltd (INSP)

kimoldfield - 23 Jun 2014 13:32

Inspirit Energy Ltd – Overview
Inspirit Energy Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Inspirit Energy Holdings Plc. Inspirit Energy Ltd was established to continue the development and commercialisation of an micro Combined Heat and Power (“mCHP”) appliance to be distributed initially to the UK market and subsequently worldwide, for the local, small-scale generation of electricity in connection with the provision of heat and hot water for SME usage. The revolutionary m-CHP appliance, which will compete with and complement existing boiler technology, initially received GAD (Gas Appliance Directive) approval in June 2006.

The Inspirit mCHP appliance is a revolutionary technology that will allow SMEs to generate heat, hot water and electricity through onsite micro-generation of power. There are no transmission losses and the appliance has a high level of energy efficiency (92%).

Benefits to SMEs include:

- Peak electrical power output of 3kW
- Heat output of 15kW thermal, with water storage up to 25kW
- Power output is not dependent on the weather
- No structural or specific planning permission required
- Reduces energy bill costs year on year
- Reduces energy costs at costly peak times
- Reduces dependence on grid supply
- Short payback period
- Saves up to 4 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year
- Low maintenance and quiet operation
- Ability to export electricity back to the utility grid
- Potential in the UK to benefit from either Feed-in Tariffs or Renewable Obligation Certificates

rumour of possible takeover by Centrica

centrica to buy this company for £50m...you heard it here first
temmujin11 Dec '17 - 19:12 - 34 of 47 0 1 Edit
interesting norwegian connection here re centrica's spirit energy norwegian joint venture: Centrica has launched its European oil and gas exploration and production joint venture, called Spirit Energy.

Under the terms of the deal with Bayerngas Norge, Centrica (which owns British Gas) will hold 69% in the new company and Bayerngas will hold 31%.

Spirit Energy will contain Centrica’s assets in the UK, Netherlands and Norway and Bayerngas Norge’s in Norway, the UK and Denmark.

then from inspirit energy 's website

The Inspirit Charger development began in the 1980’s at Lund University, in collaboration with Kockums, a Swedish ship and submarine builder. Lund commenced a project to develop a revolutionary heat and power generating appliance for domestic and commercial buildings.

In 1985 the project was then taken over by Sigma, a major Norwegian engineering company, and over 15 years developed and optimised to deliver the leading Stirling engine performance levels in today’s Inspirit Charger unit.

In 2003 the technology was moved to the UK and further refined to a production ready design in collaboration with leading UK engineering partners over the ensuing 12 years.

The result is a product with multiple patents for engineering innovations, a robust and fundamentally simple design providing leading performance and a “sealed for life” maintenance free power generation module coupled with traditional high efficiency gas condensing boiler technology.

LOL.. you must be joking!
temmujin11 Dec '17 - 19:42 - 36 of 47 0 1 Edit
no...look at this even more interesting...centrica were involved in marketing the boiler years ago

The Disenco unit is a kinematic design with an electrical output of around 3kWe, significantly higher than the other products.
The product originated in the Swedish TEM SCP Stirling engine which was subsequently developed by Sigma Elektroteknisk AS in Norway, before being taken up by Disenco in the UK.
In January 2008, Disenco announced a manufacturing partnership with Autocraft to produce the core engine, with packaging by Malvern boilers and recently announced marketing deals with Endesa and Centrica.
In early 2010 Disenco was placed in receivership; the design was been taken over by Inspirit Energy who expected to trial the unit in 2011.
In 2013, Inspirit still seemed to be facing funding difficulties and no product availability has been announced.

and this...centrica mentioned again from inspirit energy's info:Energy giant Centrica recently demonstrated its own interest in the area by acquiring CHP
business ENER-G Cogen International for £145 million....yes £145m!!!!

Although the market is still at a relatively early stage in its development, the potential for
mCHP boilers is large. Inspirit is targeting both the new sales and replacement market as
well as selling its boiler as an add-on to existing units.
In the UK, which will be the company’s initial and primary market, there were an estimated
1.66 million boilers sold in 2014 (Source: Heating and Hotwater Industry Council), with an
estimated installed base of over 20 million. Within these figures, Inspirit estimates annual
sales of 600,000 boilers to the small commercial market, with an installed base of 8 million.
In due course Inspirit will also be looking to enter the European market. Germany is the
second largest market in EU, after the UK, with an estimated 700,000 boilers installed every
year. In Europe as a whole there are an estimated 70 million boilers installed.
Many industry bodies see the potential for the technology. To give one example, a recent
report by the EU-funded body Cogeneration Observatory and Dissemination Europe
(CODE) suggested that by 2030 more than one in three boilers sold in Europe could be a
microCHP system.
Energy giant Centrica recently demonstrated its own interest in the area by acquiring CHP
business ENER-G Cogen International for £145 million. ENER-G Cogen services both
industrial and commercial customers, providing a proprietary range of standard CHP units
from 25kW to 530kW, bespoke systems
