Telecomplus plc (TEPL)

utilitiesplus - 20 Mar 2003 12:08

This company came 11th in best share performer 2002 up by 56%..In the last two days up 14 points..As a reseller of telephoney it seems funny that we will over take BT in the next couple of days,wow..whats your thoughts??

utilitiesplus - 25 Mar 2003 14:50 - 6 of 40

The bundled packages that you speak about can be over come very easily if you know how to explain, most new distributors dont know the tricks of the trade like such as BT togther,,for example, for 15 per month a person may call eve and weekend FREE..When worked out that person must spend 8 hours per month off peak and w/e JUST to get the extra 5 back BEFORE any savings are made. Very similar with Euphoney and now Bristish Gas have launched such a scheme..Most customers i sign up admit that they dont spend that much time on the phone in the eve or w/e so when i say to them that they are giving money for a service they are not fully taking advantage of then they will usually cancel that service and go with our package..

And lets not forget the savings to be made on our total package cannot be beaten. These are my opinions obviously but this is what ive found.

Utilities plus,

Ok thanks for that, you have a fair point there, but it IS proving to be a sticking point for some of the people I have talked to.

I really think they should try and create a package to compete for those people that want this. I bet there are some households where there are a couple of hours of off peak calls a night, and currently T+ do not have a competitive package to offer them.

utilitiesplus - 26 Mar 2003 07:48 - 8 of 40

Andy,,again we are talking about a very select few here and like i said if they were on a package and ONLY using a couple of hours think of what we can save them in the meantime on the rest of our package..Another thing to remember is that the customer may continue to use what ever package they have and use T+ for the rest of their usage,so they can have best of both worlds!!The market out there is massive and it is only just opening up so when people do realise that T+ has the best utility package in the UK,well i can only say that the share and company value will see huge growth plus profits..T+ has come a long way in a short time,we are very succesful as a company and distributors like myself are now reaping the rewards for hard work over the last 3-4 years, but just think we only own 1% of the UK market and our chairman aims for 10% within the next five years..

Telecomplus plc plans to change their name over the next few years gradually fazing it in on current info and websites to The Utility Wharehouse.Having been regarded as a telco the city have not yet realised thier full potential, just check last years performance results. If the city takes the name change as planned then T+ will be relisted as utility wharehouse, should be a great move for share price...

Andy - 02 Apr 2003 09:22 - 10 of 40

U+,

This is potentially bad news for T+!

Andy - 02 Apr 2003 19:47 - 11 of 40

U+

According to the latest BT are going to charge 6P per 60 minute CALL at evenings and weekends!

This is NOT good news for T+.

I spoke to a guy at Customer Services this afternoon, and he seemed to think it wasn't a problem. Well T+ may have to think again.

I await their response with interest.

Hi Andy,,check this out,

Here's an article from Citywire:

"BT pulls a fast one
Published: 13:47 Wed 2 April 2003
By Joanne Wallen, Technology Correspondent

BT has found a way to fight back against its fixed line rivals and make money; the shares are up and it looks good news for investors unless consumers cotton on to what lies beneath today's price changes.

BT, a long-standing Citywire tip, has made much of the 'radical' price changes it has announced today for its millions of fixed line customers, claiming it is 'up to 20 times cheaper than its major rivals'.

The move is clearly designed to try to protect its existing customer base from the ever-increasing competition.

Recently Carphone Warehouse has entered the fray to sell fixed line telephony as well as mobile, and announced a deal to run a service for Sainsbury. Tesco is another contender as are One.Tel and cable operators Telewest and NTL.

But 'radical' does not mean cut-price and close inspection of the changes reveals most customers will actually be forced to pay much more for their calls. BT confirms this. Although increased marketing costs will hit earnings in the short term it expects payback in 12 months and to increase revenue and profits thereafter. This is why its shares are up 8.5p to 170.5p.

How come? Interestingly, BT (BT.A) does not actually use the words price 'cuts' in today's announcement, which is nevertheless supposed to stop its 20 million residential household customers from fleeing to the competition.

BT's new offer is for customers of its BT Together package, who, it says, will pay only 6p for up to an hour on all evening and weekend calls made to anywhere in the UK.
The telecoms giant also criticises rivals for comparing their prices with BT's 'standard' rates rather than its discounted packaged rates.

However, Charles Wigoder, chief executive of smaller rival Telecom Plus (TEP), the London-listed supplier of fixed and mobile telephony as well as gas and electricity, reckons the 6p rate will actually mean a 20% price increase for the average BT customer.

Wigoder reckons that the average call length for domestic calls is under 4 minutes. BT's current evening and weekend rate is 1p a minute with a minimum fee of 5p, so Wigoder maintains that those customers making an average, sub-four minute phone call will now pay 6p instead of 5p.

On top of this, the BT rates apply to BT Together packages, which cost from 11.50 a month to 28.50 for a deal that gives the user the first hour of calls free at any time of day.

'I heard BT was making this announcement today and came into the office with trepidation. I expected them to do something competitive, but I'm delighted with this,' Wigoder said.

U+,

Brilliant!

Thanks a lot, I have been reading all the articles I could find this morning, and that's the best of the lot so far, they have actually analysed it better than most.

Yesterday the news was sketchy, and Customer Sevices weren't sure what was on offer, but I agree this is not what it first appeared to be!

Another example of "smoke and mirrors"

Andy - 03 Apr 2003 10:52 - 14 of 40

One article that supports the above;

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtml?xml=/money/2003/04/03/cnbt03.xml&sSheet=/money/2003/04/03/ixcity.html

Andy - 03 Apr 2003 10:55 - 15 of 40

And here are the "new deals"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Option one: 11.50 a month. Flat rate of 6p for local and national calls in the evening or at weekends up to one hour. All daytime calls charged at 3p a minute.

Option two: 17.50 a month. The first hour of evening and weekend calls free. Daytime calls are charged at 3p per minute.

Option three: 28.50 per month. Any call at any time locally and nationally free for the first hour.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would have thought option 3 may cause the other telco's some concern, as for anyone with chatty children/wives, this would put a lid on the bill.

of course this doesn't include calls to mobiles, where the real money is being made, IMHO.

utilitiesplus - 03 Apr 2003 23:36 - 16 of 40

Looks as though BT like so many i,e BG have adopted the confusion marketing strategy into the thick of things,,oh well Andy hopefully our lot will be able to explain this to the customer, once again..

Mark

utilitiesplus - 04 Apr 2003 08:19 - 17 of 40

Andy,,let me ask you if i may,,are you a customer or exec for T+,or both??

Mark

utilitiesplus - 07 Apr 2003 22:49 - 18 of 40

Telecomplus plc up 9.5 today, now at 178.50..As i mentioned in an earlier post large companies now taking an interest because of the break of 171..

utilitiesplus - 22 Apr 2003 23:03 - 19 of 40

T+ up again and now priced higher than BT..Keep your eye on this one folks and dont forget you saw it here first!!!

Andy - 23 Apr 2003 12:07 - 20 of 40

UT+,

Mail on Sunday didn't do T+ any favours this week!

They had one of their checks on utility prices, for electricity and gas, and used t+ STANDARD rates, rather than the discounted rate a customer would receive as a telephony customer.

Even on that basis, T+ were about 50% up the list though, so would have slaughtered them if the correct rate had been used.

utilitiesplus - 23 Apr 2003 21:50 - 21 of 40

Always the same,,they never use our best rates..

lafiamma - 27 Apr 2003 11:56 - 22 of 40

There seems to be so many companies coming into the market offering the same deals, many of whom are network marketing operations. Ever heard of a company called ACN inc, my cousin has been trying to sign me up to them? I signed up to T+ 4 years ago, but didn't utilise the opportunity and returned my joining pack for a refund, beginning to regret that decision now!

However, I don't see how T+ can achieve a 10% market share, especially when you consider the current expansion of firms such as One.Tel (Centrica, a share whose price I am watching very closely!). I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on the above and of ACN.

Cheers,

Mike

utilitiesplus - 28 Apr 2003 08:54 - 23 of 40

Hi Mike,,pity you didnt take the biz for a ride, you would have had plenty of free share options now ready to sell..Never mind its never too late..Charles reckons 10% is his long term goal and with the services we now provide plus the future prospects things are on their way..With all the press coverage we are getting in the last year or so and the fact we have just come 3rd fastest growing company in the UK and 11th best share performer for 2002 goes a long way in our favour..Our results are out at the end of this month and we have achieved gains in profits of around 30 - 45% every time..

As for Network Marketing well it has been said by people whom dont understand this concept that it will take too long to achieve our goals but if we go down the path like the companies you mentioned and spend fortunes on advertising then we become just another company and our prices would come inline with thiers.Exell in the US started in the same way as us and still work along the same lines and are now one of the most recognised companies in the USA,worth billions..ACN is a company ive heared of but know nothing about so sorry cant comment on that..All i know about Network Marketing is that its an exellent way to start a biz with no experience and little cash input to build your self a fantastic source of residual income,,getting paid every month for life again and agian on work previously done,,look at elvis, dead and now making more money than ever!!Some of our guys are now doin 30--35,000 per month for 6 years HARD work, not bad eh??

I hope this helps Mike,if you need anything else then fire away..

Mark

utilitiesplus - 29 Apr 2003 09:09 - 24 of 40

Ladies and Gents i hope you all took notice of my tip of 2,also results are out soon!!

Andy - 29 Apr 2003 11:19 - 25 of 40

U+,

Yes and going by the price continually increasing, my guess is they will not disappoint!

Andy.
