inbsuk - I take it your short! (53.5) we'll see what price it is @ the end of next week!

A number of large buy trades went through over the offer price after the bell. My finger was hovering over the button @ 46.94 bottled it!

Interesting article in the Independent or the Times today that Cable & Wireless may now make a bid for Colt. C & W are sitting on a 1.4bn cash pile and their shares have been drifting away on this. To add, it may happen as Colt may admit to it that they need a partner now. Will see if I can dig up the article.

GoodLuck!

Market Report: Colt ready for takeover talks after profits slump
By Stephen Foley
06 July 2004

Colt Telecom, the fixed-line phone calls business, will seek to open talks about a takeover by Cable & Wireless following its devastating profits warning last week, market gossips were suggesting yesterday.

Colt's shares collapsed after it warned tougher competition had led to a dramatic drop in earnings so far this year, and there will be worse to come. But the stock reversed some of the decline yesterday, closing up 1.5p at 49.25p in strong trading.

Word is the company is seeking to examine its strategy as an independent operator - despite last week's fighting talk and insistence that it has enough cash to reach break-even next year. The company is arguing that it has a very tight rein on costs, so analysts believe that it will take a merger to find the cost savings needed to adapt to the new low margin environment. C&W, sitting on a cash pile of 1.4bn after its restructuring, has long been seen as a suitor for Colt, but the smaller group has previously been shy about considering a proposal. C&W shares dipped 1.5p yesterday to 122p on the gossip that it was considering a big purchase.
