My initial definition.I thought about it for 10 minutes in a noisy Spanish cafe.
A stockmarket ramper is a person/organisation that creates a false market.The
market specialises in grossly excessive price expectations. The sole purpose
is to extract large sums of money from new/naive investors/potential investors
e.g.pensioners/students/unemployed.28p IDD and 50 p CMS are 2 examples.CMS
is particularly insidious i.e.10p to 50p - in a few weeks -before Christmas.
Christmas is often associated with financial hardship.

Well, AJREN - I STILL need it defined then because your definition has holes you could drive a bus through.
Having said that, I actually agree withSueHelen and bosley - I couldn't really give a damn at this level of picky detail.
But I appreciate that this does genuinely interest you.

This is fun.
IMO
A ramper is a person who promotes or advertises a share or product in the hope of influencing the buying or selling price in the market for personal gain or for the gain of associates or colleagues. The information is knowingly false and not based on the true relative value of the product when compared with products of a similar nature.
Generally, the ramper attempts to promote the product by ascribing to it false values and gets satisfaction by misleading the market. Measuring their success by financial gain or by self-adulation due to feelings of false superiority gained from their ability to lie and deceive others.
A Tipster is one who makes his living, or gains satisfaction by being right, by promoting a share or product, which he thinks rightly or wrongly will be advantageous to the person or persons he or she is advising.
This does not prevent somebody calling him-self or herself a Tipster actually being a ramper, or a charlatan, or believing in the product and being wrong or mislead.
Often these people can be admired for their charisma or cheek or skills.
(I first wrote Rapers instead of Rampers.)

Would anyone agree that CFP has been ramped over recent months?

Hi Baughfell...we should include EEN and MXC in that category as well then...If you look at the charts I posted on the CFP thread yesterday...all three stocks went up by 100% at the same time and all three have come down by 100% at the same time...Now this is puzzling me as to why all three went up so much all together and they have all retreated by the same amount and at the same time. For once could it just not be the general market taking them up and down all together....like how AFD, NML, AFG, MANA, MIO, and all the rest of the resource stocks went up like a bang in January and February 2004.
Otherwise I can only drawn one conclusion that MXC, AFD and all the stocks that went crazily up were caused by ramping and now they have all come down.

Check out this website and look at the article on naked shorting. I am not sure if this is totally relevant to your point, but is certainly food for thought.

An essential element of the definition of ramping is deliberately making misleading or plain untrue statements to exploit others naievity greed and laziness.
To that extent I believe that CFP has been ramped (though not on MoneyAM and not by Sue Helen), in fact I'd go one stage further and say that elsewhere it has been a textbook case of ramping that has been resisted by the market makers and by the company itself who have eventually prevailed in restoring normality
Having said that I admit to dipping in several times to make a quick few quid.
I don't think that SH ramps, just sweeps people away with boundless enthusiasm!

Sue Helen, WRT to CFP, MXC and EEN. The first two have had load of cross pollenation in terms of several now well known rampers being into both and frequent references made to the other stock across threads. The momentum (the non TA kind) on these two was building for some time before the price started to move. EEN was (to my recollection) tipped in the Daily Mail which is what started the buying - never underestimate the collective power of daily mail readers. I think its more coincidence that EEN fits the charts of the other 2.
