Who is the worst Ramper/deramper you have come across? This would be good opportunity to warn other investors (esp newbies) about the heartless souls who will quite happily promote or slag off shares without any real credible info and watch your wealth disappear.

Ian, As you monitor all the posts, would you tell us who you think are the biggest and best rampers on the board. If you post response on this thread we won't tell anybody. Honest!!

What's a ramper?

Ramper/Deramper = Nuisance of the highest order! A scaremongerer, someone who spreads false rumours about a stock in order to cause panic selling, or build buying. They either ramp a stock up, or deramp a stock down. They deliberately do this so they can line their own pocket. It's very manipulative and really only influences the less experienced. Fortunately though if you read the threads on bulletin boards like this long enough you can figure out who is a ramper/deramper. There are a handful of glaring signals there. A classic deramper is InsiderInside on the SEO thread, a hopeless individual who spends an enormous amount of effort trying to rubbish the consensus of opinion. Would be great to see him banned so we can all start constructive debate again but it's not up to us! Go back on the SEO thread to when II first popped up and there are some useful tips on how to spot one.
Hope this helps

Do rampers really affect the market? I find it hard to believe they can.
If they do, I would like to know which ones to follow.

Many shares are primarily bought by inexperienced investors looking at bulletin boards so yes, rampers do affect the market. You only have to look at the longest threads on any of the various boards to see which. They are normally shares with an attractive, sexy, jam-tomorrow technology.
They can be very profitable snoball, but you need to get in when the ramping is just starting and the price is still reasonable, not when the whole board is full of talk of how great the share is. At that point there is no one left to buy and everyone starts selling, apart from the inexperienced investors who got in late and don't realise that if it came all the way up it can go all the way down.

JB,
Every poster is entitled to their opinion, be that negative or positive. It is when a poster strays into the territory of things like personal abuse that it becomes unacceptable. As I have said previously to other people on this topic we like to operate on a freedom of speech policy but again rest assured that should we deem it necessary, we will take action against any poster who we feel does not adhere to our codes of conduct.

I see II as the devils advocate for SEO Jimmy, anything negative possible to dig up on the stock he will post. As a result so far its obvious there isn't much at all to be negative about. If we can't get rid of him maybe its worth skimming through his drivel to see if there is anything remotely plausible there. As soon as there is might be a good time to review your position.
For the record I would prefer him gone too, but we could use him to our advantage - he puts so much effort into rubbishing SEO when he comes up with his usual dross it just makes me feel more comfortable being bullish about the stock.
