THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Dred---Am I a miserable old toad for wanting as much money as possible to find it's way into charities? Just think how much better off any given charity would be if it wasn't duplicated/triplicated etc etc.
Why is there a need for 12 or more charities to receive money to fight breast cancer, the answer is, there isn't. If the number was cut to say 2 possibly 3 at most, think of the extra money available to fight it.

george - but unlike paying your tax, you actually have a choice as to which charity to support ......
i think i support about half a doz, and absolutely refuse to give to any african charities (notoriously corrupt), or oxfam (too much creamed off at the top and end usage a bit nebulous) or any israeli charity .... and there's many others to which i would not subscribe either

i wonder which if any charities fred supports ...... probably none, for his "decent society" would obviate the need for them

Stan - 18 May 2015 17:54 - 60260 of 81564

The words miserable and "Con" servative remain bedfellows forever it seems Fred... What a sad crowd they are.

cynic - 18 May 2015 17:57 - 60261 of 81564

so give us some constructive comment then stan ... assuredly there'll be none from fred as he's far too old and far too bitter and twisted

Stan - 18 May 2015 18:00 - 60262 of 81564

Oh dear there you go again Alf... have you considered anger manage classes?

Fred1new - 18 May 2015 18:03 - 60263 of 81564

I think it daft as well, but it is competition and that is supposed to produce efficiency.

Also, some of "necessary" costs are down to accountancy and inflated salaries.

My wife works unpaid for running the books and organising a body which has charity status and the accountancy can sometimes be "complicated" and "keeping" the books complex, hence the seemingly crazy costs. Bring in the solicitor and insurance and various "safety" checks and up goes the costs again.

----=-=-

My charity of choice would be a little society I am thinking of setting up
for euthanasia of some individuals on this thread.

I will give my services free of charge.

Might even pay for the pleasure.

Nice to have you back Stan not heard from you since the election results, as for being ''miserable'' or ''moaners'' (from your earlier post) I suggest you re-read your own 3 posts. Talk about downbeat, you would have fitted perfectly well with Mili and his unhappy band.

cynic, Fred's post 60266 (the first part) sums up the point I am making.

don't quite know what point that was :-)

2517GEORGE - 18 May 2015 18:15 - 60270 of 81564

cynic, so much money wasted by multiple charities serving the same need.

i agree that duplicated specific charities are a bit daft, but i see no prob in assorted cancer charities for different cancers .... and at the end of the day, you support that which you choose

MaxK - 18 May 2015 21:07 - 60272 of 81564

Art for art's sake?

Fred1new - 19 May 2015 07:37 - 60274 of 81564

VICTIM - 19 May 2015 07:40 - 60276 of 81564

A bit OT I know but do you think Obama is basically thick , he gives the Iraqi army loads of armour etc to fight ISIS . In any battle with ISIS the Iraq army basically lose , run away and leave the armour for ISIS . Now this happened as we know at the start ,but has he learned No . The only credible force against ISIS are the Kurds who are treated like sh-t by Abadi and co . They are only now thinking of giving armour directly to the Kurds .

VICTIM - 19 May 2015 08:14 - 60277 of 81564

Apparently 6000 Iraqi troops fled from Ramadi , after being attacked by 150 ISIS .
